I am scared as hell of the dentist, having people tell me how horrible I'll feel after the dentist doesnt exactly help me sleep at night :( But there are people like you who say it isnt so bad, so who knows maybe people are making it sound worse than it is.
My biggest issue with dentists has never been the physical discomfort, but the emotional discomfort. A lot of dentists are just plain jerks in my experience, because they wait until their fingers are in your mouth before they start criticizing you for not flossing enough or something, and you can't defend yourself without either chewing off their fingers or speaking in all vowel sounds.
Yeah with me its both, the emotional and physical. I dont like their confrontation and I dont like sitting in a chair with a person messing with my teeth.
When I've been to the dentist, the needle for the painkiller only hurt a little, but that was pretty much it. While they worked, it was just a feeling of pressure. I'd say any anticipation about how it'd feel would be the worst part.
The place I'd been to, they seemed pretty impartial there. The dentists didn't criticize, but didn't really give any suggestions, either.. they just did the job, though they talked. The people there seemed friendly/decent sorts, anyway. I guess it just depends on the place.
