My recommendation is the jay. If you don't want to stick with just a regular blue jay, you could go for one of the other jays... Plenty of different ones around!

I'd say a Blue Jay would be better since you want to do that the most and because of the whole more blue less red thing. I feel like you can have a Blue Jay character even if you're a fan of Regular Show, as long as you don't draw him too much like Mordecai. I think your style is different enough from the show based on your usual drawing and that one drawing you did recently. You just have to design him to be different from Mordecai and it should be fine.

Looking at pictures of actual Blue Jays, it's obvious that Mordecai is stylized for the show. I think you should just draw how you'd draw a Blue Jay based on the actual animal in your style, maybe add something to make it your own, and you'll be fine.
