DFW here! I met my BFF and now roommate  aluminemsiren about 10 years ago, it wasn't on FA but it was definitely through the internet/furry websites haha. It can be done :'D

That's suuper cool, and so long ago, man. I feel like the internet was kind of a different place about 10 years ago! I like hearing happy endings to meeting people from online friendships/relationships. Did you go to TFF?

We did! TFF was actually one of the first cons I went to a couple years ago, and IMO it's a good con to start off with. I met a ton of people. It's unfortunate you missed it this year! We're also going to BLFC which I've heard good things about, so if you have any inclination/ability to go on such short notice, I'd recommend it!

As for making friends in this fandom... honestly, you just gotta reach out. Twitter seems to be a really good way to casually interact with people if you're shy! But also... if you're a drinker, that is probably the easiest way I can think of. I broke a lot of ice at cons that way, haha.

HA I was born there, and I still visit my parents there every so often. Did you move there or were you born there? It's always exciting to hear that someone is from or lives in san angelo for some reason.

Yeah.. i don't actually mind non-artist friends, since most of my "regular" ones aren't artists anyway haha. But yes, I don't even know how to make friends. Most of the time they just randomly end up happening. So now that I'm contemplating trying to actually reach out.. I have no idea how to start.

TFF definitely seems like a good con to go to. I like that it isn't super far away from me, it's moderately sized, and it isn't horribly expensive :D may I ask how you got to know your friends? I'm pretty sure I can find some at the university I go to, but I don't know how to look

One of them was from the convention!
Another, I introduced them into the fandom and they have enjoyed it since. I met other from my highschool. Aerosocks was the one that got me back on FA. Also connections from my friends as well. I know a few at my college right now too. And the furmeets too!


TFF is really fun, depending on what you do. I wouldn't mind meeting you as well! : D

Making friends here is wonderfully easy! Especially at cons. It really sounds like what you're looking for is an icebreaker, which doesn't necessarily need to be another person. It can be anything, like a room party or a round of drinks, maybe some free badges or just complementing someones fursuit and starting a conversation. I grew up in East Tx so I know how things can be, but trust me you can find some way to break the ice and branch out whether or not you find someone to go with.

Ah yes. I heard room parties are quite common, and drinks would be super helpful. Thanks for the tips =) it does get easier once the ice breaks

I've honestly met some really wonderful people from FA and through the community as a whole. Cons are definitely better with other people, and once you get your foot wet with meeting other furries, I'm sure it will come a bit more naturally! If nothing else, you at least have one common interest that can make for easy conversation topic. I, myself, was always apprehensive about meeting people from online after a few bad experiences, but conventions, as well as meeting the Boston locals, has really turned that around for me.

Oh man that's good to hear. I'm also glad TFF is only a few hours away from me so the opportunity is actually there without having to fly out somewhere. I think I'd be less willing to go by myself if I had to cross states for my first time

I'm moving to north Dallas, up by McKinney from Chicago, so I've not much idea what there is to do in TX either!

Good luck moving! What brings you to dallas? I bet the weather is totally different up in chicago, but dallas does get its fair share of ice and cold temps since its more north of texas.

its ok if I went to TFF alone I'd have to plan carefully in advance and pump myself up to meet new people as soon as I get there, or else the awkwardness starts to set in and I just sit in the corner.
