I'm conflicted since I prefer the design of the Hull-C and up, but most of the time, will likely be traveling solo anyway, despite having a large organization. (Which is another reason I've thought I may have jumped the gun with Carrack to begin with)...
Or my Starfarer. Looks like that will be more than the max 2 person fuel ship they always made that out to be. They say they enlarged it by about 3 times what it was originally supposed to be.
I was planning it mostly as a well-rounded ship that I can play with friends, or solo adequately myself if I need to. Planning mostly high-value legal cargo runs, or possibly fitting some repair capability and a medical unit like the Cutlass Red into part of the cargo space, and doing the rescue ship thing. Oh, yeah, and since I don't like being out-gunned, and I *do* like springing surprises I picked the MIS variant.
On the other hand, every person is different, so I'd say it really depends on whether you want to explore or carry cargo.
Me, I've got a 350R, a Herald, a Khartu-Al, and a Merchantman.
(I'm thinking of trying to fit one of the other three aboard the Merchantman.)
As for the Starfarer, I wouldn't be that worried -- people will ALWAYS need fuel, and you could even just hire yourself out as a 'traveling refinery' by tagging along with a larger convoy if you want; even an NPC convoy needs fuel.
Merchantman was definitely tempting. Its definitely fast, good with carrying valuable goods, and can act as a mobile trading post, rather than having to go back to a space station or planet.
