How to hide the new IMVU/Google ads WITHOUT hiding user ads!
Or: How I learned to stop worrying and hide the sidebar.
Although these instructions are written with Adblock Plus in mind, I strongly recommend checking out uBlock Origin as an alternative. It is much lighter than ABP and should do the same thing.
JUNE 22 EDIT: The Stylish userstyle still seems to work. Since it uses the same code as the Adblock one, that should work too.
JUNE 4 EDIT: My Stylish userstyle has been updated to block the new ad above the comments, as well as (hopefully) all future Google ads. See below for installation.
This journal will guide you through how to either hide all ads, hide third-party ads only, hide the sidebar, or reposition the sidebar.
EDIT: The sidebar has been removed, but I'm leaving the links here just in case.
Just follow these simple steps and you'll be all set. I cannot guarantee that these work with the beta theme - they are designed for classic.
Adblock now collapses the whitespace properly, so it can be used as well (I explain this, so keep reading).
Go through the entire journal and ask yourself which things you want.
I want to block all ads everywhere.
Install Adblock Plus (main site, installs on almost any browser) and activate the default filter lists. That is all you need to do. (NOTE: This will block ads in a lot of other websites. If you don't have ABP, I highly recommend it, even if you disable it on FA.)
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Go into the options and uncheck "Allow some non-intrusive advertising".
I just want to block the IMVU/Google/third-party ads; I want to keep the FA artist ads.
You have two options here: Stylish or Adblock with a custom filter. See below.
I want to block third-party ads quickly and don't mind installing another extension. I also use either Chrome, Opera, or Firefox. I also am not served audio/video ads (which won't be blocked with Stylish).
First, disable Adblock on FurAffinity.net (this is an option shown by just clicking the icon for it).
Then, install Stylish (Chrome or Opera or Firefox).
Then, install my userstyle (from userstyles.org).
Ads will disappear automatically on installation.
I want to block third-party ads, but I don't want to install Stylish (or I don't have Chrome, Opera, or Firefox, or I am served audio/video ads).
First, make sure you have installed Adblock (see above) but disabled it on FurAffinity.net.
Then, go to the options, and under "Add your own filters", click "Edit filters as raw text", then copy and paste the following at the end:
furaffinity.net##DIV[id^="ad-extra"]
Then, click "Apply changes".
Ads should disappear on refresh.
NOTE: This does essentially the same as the Stylish ad blocker, just manually.
==NOTE: The following things are useless because the sidebar was removed. I'm only leaving them here just in case; you should not use them for the time being.==
I want to just get rid of the sidebar altogether.
First, make sure you have installed Stylish (see above). If you can't, try the Greasemonkey option below.
Then, install jackmcslay's userstyle (from userstyles.org).
The sidebar will disappear on installation. If you need it back to view its content, edit a submission, etc., click the Stylish icon and uncheck the sidebar remover style. It will be shown instantly.
I want to move the sidebar's contents back to its original position.
Follow this guide to install a Greasemonkey script which does just that.
Alternatively, maloo has similar Greasemonkey script here if you already have Greasemonkey installed and don't need instructions.
WARNING: Greasemonkey scripts may fail (possibly catastrophically) on code changes, so use these at your own risk!

FA+

This is way simpler and anyone can do it.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u.....ol_sidebar.txt
only thing is now my fonts are waaaay too big, is there a way to get it back down?
For the record for anyone trying to get adblock to show the FA user ads only:
furaffinity.net#@#.ads
furaffinity.net#@##ad-2
furaffinity.net#@##ad-4
furaffinity.net##DIV[id^="ad-extra"]
at the end
(Assuming FA comments don't murder the formatting)
PIMPING OUT THIS JOURNAL!
Not only did you fix FA, you started with 'Step 0'
Adblock
A couple of artists have thanked me personally for leaving FA ads intact because that's how they make a lot of their pageviews happen... if you use Adblock, no harm no foul, but this is just an alternative for people who want to find artists.
I could care less about the imvu adds but
i was wanting something to make my facebook
look nicer x"D ♥ you're the best!
I still have the sidebar though, since I only allowed FA site scripts to run on this site.
I'm only blocking scripts that run in the background of the site, only allowing FA's local scripts to run.
Chrome has all of that "big brother" spyware crap integrated into it, and the interface is horribly minimalistic. Never liked using it.
waiting on the sinking ship to snap in half titanic style. i already have my raft waiting for the slow pokes, but this is getting ridiculous watching people try to bucket water out of this bitch trying to save it
thank you
*reposts a journal linking back to this one*
Don't forget Opera users, here: https://addons.opera.com/en/extensi.....tails/stylish/
This version is for the newer version of Opera, based on the Blink engine (see: Google Chrome).
Aside: this tells me how much work I would need to put into Vaunt Dark and Sliverbore, as well, to ... compensate for the new changes.
but from what it seems like, a lot of people don't even care about blocking the community ads either. Which is starting to make me wonder now if it's worth continuing it with the dropping views. Sucks cuz I need it, but what can ya do, I guess.
I hope this catches on.
This works! Thanks so much!
I really really don't want to disable user ads, but the google/IMVU ones are just awful.
https://forums.furaffinity.net/thre.....ut-the-Sidebar
I'm just curious why those aren't being blocked and if there's anything I can do to get rid of them.
Thank you for your help though! I love not seeing the Google ads.
Thank you so much.
not seeing an option for that...
show tabs on flash and java
count filter hits
there is a filter preferences though which opens --> two tabs: Filter subscriptions and custom filters
To make them fix it you have to hurt them at the wallet. Block all adds so they don't make anything off them, and I mean everyone, has to do enough damage to make them back peddle on third party, then the sight 'might' go back to being ad's for furs by furs rather then whatever the hell we want that pays us.
If you want to also block artist ads, that's your call.
But again my opinion, I still stand by you should not be doing the work of the people paid to do this sorta thing on this sight.
I'm not seeing an option for it, aside from turning on "enable custom filters".
I'll do what I can to let others know about the work you've done. :)
Here's what I did:
1. Re-enable ABP for FA.
2. Paste the following into the ABP filters:
furaffinity.net#@##ad-2
furaffinity.net#@##ad-4
furaffinity.net#@#.ads
furaffinity.net##img[src="//rv.furaffinity.net/www/images/72e60e7ca1d9b68cae0eb7e72f9e2829.jpg"]
furaffinity.net##img[src="//rv.furaffinity.net/www/images/c5b213ec2132a9e9d3c26186aa675ad9.jpg"]
furaffinity.net##img[src="//rv.furaffinity.net/www/images/ead2d411bce19dfb7a26477d1fe321c6.jpg"]
The last three lines seem like they correspond to banner IDs 1203, 1205, and 1206, which are IMVU ads. I did a little archiving of the current user ads, and it looked like similar ads are grouped together in the banner ID catalogue. 1202 and 1207 are both personal user ads, so I think that should be all the IMVU ads except for maybe 1204, which I've not seen yet.
So yeah, that seems to be a way of attacking ads by ID rather than by space on the page.
I could be very wrong about this, though, as I have no computer skills to boast of.
I'd recommend re-installing Chrome and immediately going to the adblockplus.org website to get the program. The hope is you'll download and activate it before the malware stops you.
