Sidebar, Adblock...
I see quite a lot of journal pop up about those two nowadays... What do I think about the sidebar ? I don't know why it's there. Does it bother me ? Not really. Would it bother me if it had some distracting advertisement right next to the artwork ? Potentially, yes. Would that be worth adblocking the site ? Yes, but it'd be better if that went along an e-mail explaining why you block the ads to an admin so the problem could be resolved without having to cut this passive funding.
Because this is what ads are. Funding. I do wonder how FA managed to remain without proper ad support but I understand why it's there and I also understand that adblock could hurt the site's revenue. Then again, these ads would be "made to work gracefully with Adblock without breaking site functionality". Whatever that means.
So all these talks of adblocking everywhere make me somewhat cringe. I hope those spreading the word to block ads do understand they're also blocking money from going to sites, even potentially hurting content creators who host their material on said sites. Obviously that last bit isn't the case on FA but I'm saying that as a general rule.
Whatever makes you feel justified in using adblock is fair game, I do use it as well when I get too annoyed -- bugger any website that has these videos starting randomly which you can't ever friggin find to shut them up. I'm looking at you, Escapit, Deviantart.
Still in the end this is the jist of it all : do you want to hurt a website ? Use adblock.

That being said, I prefer sites with a premium option that grants you features such as no ads AND more. Cus then I can choose to support the site without getting ads shoved in my face. Web ads in general usually suck.
just needs some edits to make it less. . . BAM in your face type deal with ads. find places for them to work with the site instead of against it. (without having to use ad block. i dont want to use that unless it really gets in the way, which is normally those videos or when an ad decides to pop up some where just as your about to click. i hate those. like really. who invented those things?)
I do enjoy seeing ads, sometimes they have nice things that catch your eye.
They actually got rid of the ad on the sidebar on my end. i dunno how it is on yours but its not bad at all. just was kinda seemed to take away from the art when it was there.
i personally dont mind the side bar thing. . .i actually i still have yet to take off the beta, but i also dont want to. some things need tweaking but other than that i like it. Web designing is harder than it looks. lot of trial and error to see what in the coding is messed up or correct and to see how it fits together with linking and all of that wonderful stuff.
this community was created, yes I have a problem with that sidebar ad.
It is BLOCKING my artwork from view in full view.
That ad space is Butt Ugly and intrusive on that sidebar.
If that specific ad space wasn't there. If that specific ad wasn't so intrusive
to me viewing artwork, I would have no problem with it.
A SkyScraper ad would have been better even!
There's the fear of things turning into this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16397424/
Because IMVU is like this....
Though I really do agree with Tekoronia, giving an option to pay to disable ads would be great. The other features that get locked away only for premium users (in most of those cases) make it a less ideal option if it goes that way.
Okay but see, it's furaffinity.
The things I work on or get as commissions I do not post here. I am only here to look at things that I cannot see anywhere else, as well as read journals sometimes. Nothing more.
At first when they updated there was too many ads on one page, like it was cluttered, but I noticed they changed it. Unless I'm missing something, but most of the ads I see now are the usual ones. Which I don't mind. Most of the time I don't mind the ads, except for those video ones. If a site has nothing but video ads then I usually have adblocker on too.
In fact, I find the mobile versions of these ads nowadays browsing with the iPad and they totally slow down apps and I get frustrated. I don't care watching ads, I may even find some useful, but if they get between the site's main function, they have to go. Rather simple, if drastic.
