FYI, you get blown in to space, not sucked.

It's the air rushing out that blows you with it in to space.

Not to mention you can't hear anything and fire can't survive in the vacuum like how some of the sci-fi shows depict it.

Ever see the movie Gravity? Was scary, but yet awesome when things went to shit in the movie and there was no sound.

What somewhat scares me at times, is looking at the sky at night when it's clear and starry, and realizing that the blackness I'm seeing is virtually infinity. Well space likely loops in on itself, so if light travelled fast enough I would probably be seeing a huge planetary hall of mirrors. In either case, it's normal to be scared by the idea of something so large and difficult to comprehend... in the end however, I still find it more beautiful and fascinating than scary.

We are so small compared to it's scope. And truly what it is and how it was created is mind boggling.

Well, I don't really believe it was created... at least not intentionally the way religions state. The universe is the product of a system and the way energy interacts, and us living beings are the product of this product. Just a manifestation in a system so large, we could probably never begin to even comprehend it. Still, I like it this way

And here i am in Elite: Dangerous, thousands of lightyears away from earth, all alone. Shitting my pants each time i complete a jump and i am greeted by a white star, (especially if its a white dwarf ) or land right in the middle of two stars. And yet the explorer in me is stronger. Finding worlds no one has been to before ( no luck with that one yet. ) andthinking about how this world might have been formed, what kind of life would develop there, mapping the continents etc. Once i found life on a planet without atmosphere but huge oceans of ammonia. also there seemed to be vegetation at the shores.

Or in short : I am scared like hell if i meet anything that isn't a orange/red/yellow star. But finding out about the magic of creation keeps me going :3

This is why I adore science.

Space is pretty hostile.

Space is pretty big.

But space is awesome, and the fact that the muscle and nerve fibers in your head is able to appreciate the majesty of the cosmos, and realize that you are literally the product of a supernovae. <3

The cooler part that everything I'm made up of will continue to exist and will become something else eventually.

Space gives me a very rare sensation, known in Japanese culture as "Yugen" . A profound sense of awareness (of space) that sends me into a deep, emotional state of love and wonder. I usually tear up.

I adore space, but also fear it for the many dangers and possibilities that lurk within it.

You know what, space isn't even that scary. It's the theories about space/universe that scare the crap out of me. For example;

Well you have to understand, is that earth used to be considered huge in itself. It could take months for a message to reach another person. Now it takes less than a second for a message to be sent.

Perhaps we are the first species to make it this far. Maybe the evidence (signals) haven't reach us yet as it takes time for things to move. Perhaps our radio signals degrade due to Cosmo interference such as high level gravitation fields of black holes. We are a backwater planet, we are on the far arm of the galaxy after all.

Personally it may seem unachievable, but doesn't mean it isn't. Sadly we may never live long enough to see interstellar travel come into fruition.

Not necessarily. I'd argue we are currently the most important generation. Let's say things go well enough that world economy is stable and that medical science has advanced to the point where the life (comfortable living at least) expectancy has been increased to about 90-95. That means we get about 70 of those years to set the infrastructure for future generations to go space and explore/colonize/empire!/whatever.

Honestly, that's one of the only things that excites me about the future. I may never get to go space, but to see the launches colonies on planets or interplanetary/inter solar (not likely) travel, it'd be like seeing the moon landings x10. (the moon is one small step man, but Kepler-186f is the true great leap.)

Edit: Now that I think about it, there's probably a chance we COULD get to the point of interstellar travel if we get our shit together, but hey; a man can dream can't he?

What would be cool is if we make first contact with an alien civilization before I pass away.
