About reposting my art:
Don't do it.
The only exception is if you commissioned it, or if your character is in it and you have permission.
I know some people are fine with their art being thrown around as long as credit is given, but I'm not one of those people - I like to be in control of where my art goes and where it ends up.
It says this on my front page but sometimes I find reposts on Tumblr and Twitter and things sourcing back to here (I try and keep it under control on dA by removing the share buttons on things I'm very clingy about but of course I can't stop people from straight up linking it)
- ALSO I will never understand why people will repost something to tumblr when it has my tumblr url pasted literally onto the image. That means you'll be able to find it on my tumblr and you can reblog it from there.

For reasons I cannot fathom, some peoples' desperate need for imaginary internet points will drive them to any lengths; not only reposting other peoples' art, but doing it without credit and even in some cases claiming they were the artist themselves, as I've had happen to me in the past. It's never fun to have to deal with, but I commend your efforts to keep your work from being shared unwillingly or stolen outright.
I have had a couple of times where people have tried to sell my stuff on shirts and prints and whatnot, but they're largely art theft accounts and I wasn't the only victim, so getting them taken down wasn't much of a problem there.
Yeah, it's that most of the time they don't that makes it a mess for artists and their work, especially the times where the repost gets more attention than the original. I'm sorry for what happened with the art for your friend, it's the lowest kind of low for someone to edit out the credits in a picture they had nothing to do with just for internet attention.
I've had a weird case of being on the receiving end of an angry mob yelling and screaming at me about stealing art from someone, where in fact it turned out that it was someone that had reposted work of mine, removed the watermarks, and claimed it as their own; it wasn't until someone took the time to notice that the original in my gallery predated theirs by a good three years that the abuse stopped.
I love that post hanging around that's like 'how to remove watermarks from artwork' and it's step 1: open the artwork in photoshop. step 2: locate the watermark. step 3: punch yourself in the face
I'm not a violent person, but wow, that would make me want to punch someone Dx
e621 and other furry sites have a artist tag. Which means if someone likes it they can find you.
I have found several artists through E621.
Seriously. Why are people complaining about free advertisement.
Its like you sell a product and tell everyone not to show it to anyone.
I personally don't have an issue as long as there is credit, but I can see why some people do.
If I want the advertisement, I'll advertise myself. It's my artwork - it's something I make as enjoyment and for work, and if I don't want it going somewhere, then I should have the right to control whether it goes there or not. If I want it posted to a specific site, I'll post it there myself. It's more than just a simple product to advertise; it's my heart and soul and passion, it's the only thing I consider myself to be good at and it's something I take pride in. Not being in control of where my art ends up, loses my autonomy as an artist.
What's more, the 'free advertisement' often doesn't result in anything; more often than sometimes, people will follow the account that is making the reposts, rather than the original artist, especially if that person reposts several artists with a similar aesthetic or theme.
On top of that, the problem of one repost being credited, if someone makes a repost of THAT repost it will usually not include the credit, or it will credit back to the repost, and people on the internet are lazy. they're not going to trawl through a massive chain of links to find the original artist (unless they're Nice People and actually do want the original source).
*edit: ALSO. the least they could do is give me the courtesy of ASKING. I've had people ask before they post places, and often times I'm fine with it unless it's a commission, in which case they'd need both my permission and the commissioner's.
But I'm just talking about people who repost without asking at all.
Having the full url as a watermark in your images helps against people not crediting, because it's literally embedded into the artwork.
The best you can do is watermark your work. Just be careful if you DMCA a work on Tumblr. They're a very spiteful community in regards to DMCA and DRM, from my experience.

it wouldn't be so terrible if only Staff didnt make it so that you can make an image post by copypasting it/its url which completely destroys any source info and rewrites the url as a tumblr one. that made me so mad. why
