Paypal: The AUP Change is Nothing (chill the fuck out)
Hey,
So people need to be aware that the whole Paypal thing is being blown out of proportion. The $2,500 fine they 'threaten' you with in new AUP is fancy legalese to protect their own asses for if/when you should ever commit high level (felony) fraud against them. That's like, when you're doing some serious bad shit and they catch you with your hand in the cookie jar; i.e. money laundering, child pornography, narcotics trafficking, or whatever.
Seriously, people....
Just keep these FOUR THINGS in mind and chill the fucknuggets out. Here you go:
1) never say anything in comments when paying that will raise a red flag (i.e. "Here's payment for the nude, adult, penis in the vagina artwork you're doing for me!! Thank you!!)
**you can still use it for adult art, just keep that shit to yourself, how else will they know?**
2) never send payment as a "gift" (receiver doesn't have to pay fees and getting gifts from 'random' people like this all the time WILL raise red flags with paypal)
3) artists should consider sending invoices -- they are more secure and protect both parties much better than leaving something in the hands of a commissioner who may be "new"
4) if the artwork is traditonal and will be shipped, purchaser MUST include address -- failure for them to do so can result in them filing a claim afterward saying they never received it (and they will WIN and get their $$$ back)... if digital artwork, then no address needed
There you go. Now go back to buying your porn and keep quiet about it. :3
**UPDATE 5/16/15 11pm EST: Linking journal to one of my commenters, Spix, who contacted Paypal and sought information further directly from the source. Their findings prove all of what I've said here. Take a look: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6740803/
**UPDATE 5/17/15 12:09am EST: Confirming everything I've said and know to be true in my journal, here's additional proof that people are blowing this all out of proportion: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6741659/

Paypal runs a business just like you, hell your using them to get money from others, is $1-$5 depending on how much is being sent THAT much of a big deal? Paypal needs to earn money to, and they do so by taken the least amount possible from you.
So I don't know why people are trying to fuck the system and say "FUCK YOU PAYPAL." They are a BUSINESS. They provide a SERVICE. You pay for that service. Stop trying to game the system or they will come after your cheap-ass.
*I agree with you*
And your suppose to report anybody who makes you.
So, in the end, its just a personal choice thing for me.
Don't know if I would ever report someone, I would just say then that, "Well, if you want me to pay the $2 fee, maybe I'll take my $50-60 commission elsewhere."
Artist is happier because I put out the few extra dollars to cover it. Its win-win.
But anyway, we can end it there.
That artist is in my top three people I'm most indebted to on the internet.
As long as you play safe and are doing things the right way, you have nothing to worry about. People are blowing this wayyyyyyyyyyyyy out of proportion.
All the same, I appreciate you mentioning it. I never even knew about it until you mentioned it.
Just keep it simple and don't fret. You have nothing to worry about.
This is troubling to me... and a bit confusing. :/
I dunno... more overblown furry-drama, perhaps?
Damn... well, we'll just have to be extra-careful, that's all! ;)
Makes enough sense to me now, especially after having read a few more informal journals.
People just need to keep using common sense like in the past, and all will be fine. My advice in this journal will keep your nose clean and everyone will be happy.
Sell Digital Sticker packs. (would require you to make them) $5 for Pack a $10 for Pack B. All they see is donations and gifts to support an artist like Patron, ALL will be linked back to an art pack/pdf/whatever and it's 100% clean. Money for goods, Donations for goods, all legal.
in your privet notes however it's full on conversation.
I feel so much more safe again, and really as if i can continue as i was before, just skirting under the paypal radar with 18+ commishes and stuff X3
I know the thing start 1 july. I not need worried about my past entries? because I type my username and commission always in the noticed. what I let empty now. When I send it as service.
1) type of commission/art you are buying (sketch, inked piece, digital work, etc)
2) use an abbreviation of your username (ex: I say "this is payment for the sketch piece for 'Ezz')
Paypal won't fine for previous things you've paid for -- they can't do that.
and thanks for the tips. since 2008 I never type this C:
but for the future X3
And about the Paypal / Ebay relationship. You're absolutely correct in that regard. I've never felt the two worked together all that well anyway, now they will be completely separate.
I've been sending invoices for money from my commissioners for about a year and have to say it's more...convenient, I think. It leaves me more in charge and I don't have to worry about a slip up of info...I just type "Thank you" and maybe include the name of where I'm sending if they're new to me.
In the USA, the seller cannot charge the customer for PayPal fees. In the Germany AUP, and many other countries, they can.
Reference my journal: Merchant fees: PayPal, Credit Cards, and you
I just thought it was worth mentioning since your readers may not be aware.
