Depends on if it's a biped or a quadruped. The easiest way for either type to stop themselves from being nommed is to reach their forelimbs out and around whatever it is that's taking them in.
With bipeds, the arms' default position is down at their sides, so it's easier to push down onto the arms and force them into the default state than it is to bend them (sometimes impossibly) out and up over the head.
With quadrupeds, the at rest position is out in front of them. Ergo, it will generally be easier to take those in "feet" first so that their forelimbs get pushed out in front of them instead of trying to force them down at their sides.
Yeah, if it isn't obvious, I've done more than my fair share of nomming. ^^;
I'm pretty exclusively a head first only kind of guy. It's the way snakes almost always consume their prey, because feet-first swallowing, especially with big prey, can cause the limbs to get stuck on the mouth, plus you're going against the fur and against the way you want the joints to bend, which all makes it harder to swallow. In addition, it's a bit less enjoyable when your head isn't enveloped for the majority of the time. I'd much rather have my head in a warm and wet place and my feet and tail dangle in the cold air than the reverse, you'll also be able to smell the acids of the stomach coming closer and all, plus it avoids the rather awkward looking 'centipede' thing you get when your legs are already in but your torso, arms, and head still stick out of the pred's mouth. Finally, it's fun when your prey's feet are the only thing still sticking out of your mouth, and their head is already inside the stomach, and you can sit back and spend several minutes licking and slurping over their soles before sending them back down, so you can let your meal settle.
Both have their merits, feet first the prey would get to see themselves being slurped down and probably squirm more while with head first the pred can restrain a wriggly prey quicker and get to enjoy parts of the meal more, like nether regions and sucking on the feet before a final gulp
Depends on how the pred wants to feel him struggle. I love feet first because I love watching the prey flail about trying to grab on to something helplessly as he slowly sinks down his pred's throat. Head first is better if you wanna get it down easier
