Only way to fix it is to replace the gearbox. IF I can find one at the junkyard i can afford it. If not i am screwed. Like.. Cheapest I have found is $650 and new ranges from $1500 - $2200

That seems very expensive for an Echo. I thought they were popular enough there would be a selection of cheap parts. Is this gearbox replaceable with some Scion gearboxes?

I don't have the Echo anymore. It got killed spectacularly. This is for my Corolla.

Parts for a Corolla should be even more popular than for an Echo. So my surprise is even greater.

My brother cooked the engine of my Fathers Mazda Lantis. It took several hours to pull the engine & transmission out once everything had been disconnected. The V6 leaves very little room to maneuver in the engine bay.

Putting it all back together with a new engine was even harder.

I don't know what kob is but I usually prefer mine with corn on it.

corolla gearboxes around here in central NC are $79.99 + core in the U-pull it yards. lots of 4AFE equipped manual corollas in the junkyards around here too. I wouldn't personally pay more than $250 for a known-good low mileage FWD corolla 5 speed

They are the same here but finding a manual for a 98 - 02 in pull a part here is impossible. I have only seen one. I cannot use the 4AFE box cause my engine is a 1ZZFE

That sucks. Going through the same thing myself (though, I think mine is the center diff on my Subie). 210K miles, the last 100K though have been pretty rough on it. I can't tell you how many launches, hard shifts, off roading, clutchless shifting, and overall abuse this transmission has taken over time, but I expected it t go a long time ago. Now the hunt is on for a decently priced used one.
