The passing of Doug Winger
Coming out of the woodwork mid-trip for a quick journal.
I've had friends keeping me posted when word got out that Doug had been admitted to the hospital. Since then, I'd been hoping to hear good news but it became more clear over time that it wasn't looking good. Doug had been an early inspiration to me in many ways. From being one of the artists who indirectly led me to join the fandom and doing more art, to being one of the first sources who helped inspire an interest in hyper themes as I kept revisiting his works over the years. And his sense of humor that he showed with his works in the various one-liner captions was something I really enjoyed, too. Sexy/sexual art that's also good for a chuckle. That's part of the reason why that overlap shows up in my own works as well from time to time. Being inspired by good ol' Doug Winger's art. Just wish I'd had a chance to meet him. From what I heard, he was just as entertaining a character in person as he was with his art.
Rest in peace, Doug. You may be gone, but you won't be forgotten. Give the folks where you are a good laugh like you did for us here, would ya? Here's to you, man.
