What a Mess!
Last Monday night at 3:00am my daughter came running upstairs screaming for me to help her get her computer out of the basement – the basement was flooding. On my way down, I looked out of the window to see what looked like the underside of a waterfall coming from the eaves troughs – so much rain they couldn’t handle it. The water was covering the road and up the lawn. Downstairs, the water was up just above my ankles. We got the computer upstairs as well as the game systems but a lot of other stuff was in the water/sewage. Things were floating around in this foggy water with what looked like soot in it. Yes, it was bubbling out of the toilet and the shower as well as the drain in the floor. My daughter more or less lives down there so she was totally put out including her cats.
My daughter’s friends have been incredible in helping us clean and letting her stay with them. We have most of the cleaning finished and a great amount of our belongings are out on the deck covered with several tarps. Other items that need to be washed or wiped off are out on the lawn. There is a pile of large things at the curb and a bunch of large garbage bags full in the drive way - all garbage. We have to figure out how to get rid of that. A great deal of bleach and disinfectant has been used on everything that has come in contact with the water.
As you guessed, we do not have insurance any more. Many of people on our street were flooded and now have crews in all of their laneways every day. I think all of them are at the construction stage now.
We still have a bit more cleaning to do and then the drywall removal.
After everything is clean and very dry, we can redo the dry wall and put it back together.
Oh oh, did I tell you it is raining today and is supposed to tomorrow also? Even if it doesn’t get into the house or onto the stuff on the deck – there is the humidity factor.
What a mess!
