I'm honestly not surprised... all the left, the supporters of the "rainbow nation", are blaming this on apartheid.... God, I was worried about my own country for a minute there. =( But still, sorry to hear of this. Now more than ever, people need to learn to conserve the precious energy we still have.

Solar is the way to go!
As it is we use super little electricity a month, the equivalent to 20 USD.
But if we could break free from the grid that would be the best.

And I would like to go solar too. Also, there is a theory that there is a way to harness the energy out in space as well, and send it to Earth. If we ever can perfect that, we'll change everything. ^^

That really is pretty scary :( Two weeks without electricity is a frightening concept, especially in large cities. I remember Occasional blackouts when I lived in Joburg around 2000, but it seems to have become so much worse. Stay safe, Zoy!

I have not seen any blackouts in my area that haven't occurred by power consumption. Most blackouts here are due to storms and inclement weather.

While it does concern me, I don't feel like this would be a nation wide blackout. Though it also never hurts to be prepared, stocking up on food and water is always a viable option in any disaster scenario and everyone should really do it.

I'm remaining positive about this as I am not seeing a whole lot of evidence besides this persons prediction.

The worst my state had was in 2009 I think when we had a massive ice storm that cut out power for half the state. It only lasted for 5 days or so but the end results were not bad. There are also alternate sources of energy, many people in my area have back up generators be default due to inclement weather.

No, I live in Kentucky. Inclement weather can be common here due to the temperature changes.

Back in May while I was on campus it was a warm sunny morning and it quickly turned to 25 MPH winds, hail and torrential rain in a matter of minutes.

Ouch ... thats really a pain in the ass. I freak out even for 1 hour the internet / power is down lol ... but hope it gets better on your side! Its really a shame that by todays standarts there are only "shitty" situations and then there are the "extremly shitty" and, my favourite, the "okey i am literally fucked!" situations. I guess yours would be the last one. Wish you the best of luck for your future!

If the power goes wont the pumps for gas stop to? And solar power is good, and whit a good battery backup whit that so you have power for 24 hours if the solar stops or something breaks. switching the lighting to a DC current instead of a AC one will allso save since converting from dc battery to AC has a power loss.

Well with all the load shedding a lot of places have had to get generators, so that helps at least.
There should be a quite a few gas stations with generators to keep the pumps going I hope.

Ah i thought you would get natural gas from gas line straight into the house, didnt realize you where going to use tubes.

We don't really get gas for home use here, its all electrical.
Unless you have like a gas canister for camping or you buy your own gas and have it delivered to your home.
But none supplied by any municipalities.
