What's in a mate...?
General
So I've been single for about three years now after a very trying relationship (yes, with a girl), but I'm trying to get back into the game. (embarassing secret: I've only had one real relationship in my life.) I'm just afraid I don't have much to offer, but I have to at least try, right?
This is a rough list of what I look for in someone:
1. honesty - there were enough lies and manipulations with my girlfriend and I need people to tell me honestly how they feel about me, even if it hurts.
2. patience - I can have real bad bouts of depressionand I'm afraid of driving people away. This parallels with endurance and fortitude, being able to weather good times and bad.
3. sense of humor - I have to be silly and random at times, because I take life too seriously. Willingness to make me smile is needed.
4. hygiene - enough said
5. willingness to try new things
6. compassion - caring for others, sympathetic (sorry, I simply cannot stand arrogance and people who talk down to others)
Yes, it would be great to meet someone a foot taller than me with tanned skin and a Jay Cutler-like physique, but I know that's not realistic. It's not even right for me to hold standards like that above people's heads, especially being a 140 pound weakling myself. Besides, beauty is more than skin-deep.
I just wanted to share my thoughts and wonder what it is you guys look for in a mate.

...me, if I'm lucky. : P
I sympathize with you, I ended up in a relationship once... oh... a long time ago now, which didn't so much die but go up in a fiery blaze of glory in the end. And this was that we "broke up" on a good note. Some things were never meant to be.
My advice to you would be to keep an eye out. You can't expect someone just to fall in your lap. (Even though these things do happen.) Keep looking and keep your chin up :)
All of those things listed are key to any relationship.
I'll break it down for you. (Tehehe, I love doing this)
1. Honesty is essential for any relationship.
2. Patience = Love
3. Absolutely Needed
4. Definitely needed. >.>
5. That's what relationships are about, right? I mean new relationships are daring.
6. Compassion reinforces Patience =)
All you need to do is be yourself. I'm sure you'll find that special someone.
