That which does not kill us, makes us stronger. ~Friedrich Nietzsche
It seems to be a recurring theme in human history that there is a tendency for self-predation. Perhaps the most notable instance of this for the point I wish to make, is the dark ages, followed by the enlightenment. When science hatched from the gruesome shell of niggardly phantasmagoria into an age of logic and reason and has only grown to it's current state that we enjoy today.
Islam claims to be the last and best religion. I fervently hope that is true. I have not examined closely the political ramifications of the dark ages. But if the trend continues predictably, we may yet see, if we survive this crucible, an age that surpasses and trumps the enlightenment of past generations.
Otherwise, if fate would make martyrs of us all, I pray that the extinction will be a surgical one and the earth will be left in peace for the next species to evolve to inherit it.
