Some thing We had Forgotten as Artists

General
The First Furry ever in Guatemala since 1998 and proud of it!
Some furry that i wont mention its name asked me on a personal note
Be interested in either of these?
What would you be willing to pay if you were?
Selling them not sure what to price them at, offers open.
Sorry if I am bothering you.
and then it put some links to the characters he was selling
which i reply:
Well if you want my expertise opinion paying for some one to gain a random character
i think its a very lame way to "make a character" instead of making your own chars and then maybe
ask for help to improve their looks if drawing is not your thing, how ever the character can become popular later
on under its new owner giving it character personality and "a life" and there for become a great inversion,
But it wont be in the end your full creation!
but not many chars become popular for that sadly just most of them been for looks now days,
it is still the work of art and time of an artist this random made chars to my opinion could go from
$3 to $50 depending on the species colors and gender, been the bright color female canines the big bet
for so many fox and wolfs out there trying to make an "original Character" based on pretty design
instead of character development as in, its its way of been, if its up to me i would like them
for free since you don't seem to want your own chars or to busy to give them personality my advice is
stop making random characters and just focus on developing the ones you already have and make
them better, but thats not gonna happen if you ask the buyer the lowest price would do,
Making a character is not about buying the looks and then making stuff with them thats not making a character
that is copy paste!, great characters can be simple looking and still be a great hit such are
the examples of, Garfield, Snoopy, bugs bunny, Peppa pig, kuro chan, hello kitty, etc and be great
characters do to the fact they are likeable and have CHARACTER in them! they have a personality
people can relate with and even feel to know them so if you want to make a great character here are
some advice i took from great comic strip artist and writers Roger Armstrong, Bob Thaves
and Charles Schulz. in my own words...
1) Do not make stories with themes you don't know shit about!, use themes you are related to, things
more ppl like yourself can realate too or themes you are interested in and could investigate and
learn more about before you do some thing with it, try to search for that story or idea that has not
been made yet how ever i know thats very HARD! to do so you maybe could just fusion two ideas
into one it might work it might not. 50% chance.
2) If you got a great idea but then a super billion dollar company does that idea before you don't get
depressed angry or frustrated, it happens A LOT! its true people would say its already been made and all that
its not your fault they got many ppl working on this at the same time they have that advantage
but you can give a twist to it like adding some thing the other did not tough of into that character of your
own story maybe he is allergic to chocolate or what ever! or just make the best out of it it might turn out
people would like your version more try to gain advantage of the things they let slip.
3) There is a big difference between a fan made art or character and darn stupid fuck up plagiarism of it
taking some one else character and just changing some tiny features into it and giving it different clothing
or color is not a good character creation! its plagiarism! does not even count as parody!
i know many of your own characters can look a like since you do got now an art style but wen you take
some one else work photoshop it and call it "Your Own" thats just simply lame and silly.
4) Think for your self! don't ask for people opinion of your chars or story line until its totally finish or at
least a lil more up to tone scratch!, if you do that their ideas put into your character would only end up
becoming a cooperative creation not your 100% own. if you want to take them after thats different
cause you are making the changes after an advice and if in the end its not in the liking of people go
to next #5 point.
5)ACCEPT DEFEAT!! not all ideas are good! not all ideas are meant to succeed!
don't push it into people's throats! forcing them to like them or else! get angry drama drama drama!
at them or go drama fuck up just cause they didn't like your idea or character how ever keep it around
maybe you just didn't show it to the right people YOUR FRIENDS JUDGMENT IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT EITHER!!!
(that goes to #4 up there too) the marketing for a product can make a lot of difference,
same thing with a character!, but do go buzzurt! just cause ppl didn't enjoy that.
move on keep creating you will get there.
6) my final advice and own slogan...
keep it up and keep it kool!.
Peace. and please don't go stealing other peoples characters NOT KOOL!
