lose a nut?

It's the tuner button, a bit different from the nut. I have heard people call them "knobs" before though.

Especially being an Acoustic, I'd only worry if The wood had a Crack or looked Brittle, Everything metal and Plastic can b Replaced fairly cheap....

This is generally a great rule of thumb. I mean, in this case these tuners were nice for japanese tuners but nothing terribly special, but in some cases you might be putting yourself out by quite a few bucks by rounding over that post and in some cases these things are proprietary. It's good to be gentle with instruments.
