as many of you know the radio show (The Metal Experience) that many of us have come to love is experiencing some issues and was recently forced to relocate! we need your help to keep the show going! our rents not cheap and the money has been coming out of our pockets so far and we still need to get so much stuff to even start broadcasting again. You can help by donating on our go fund me and help us to reach our goal or by even sharing the link to help us get the word out! http://www.gofundme.com/themetalexperience anything at all would be appreciated! thank you for even taking out the time and looking, this radio show is more than that to us and means so much to everyone thats involved we really dont want to see it go and hopefully with your help it wont have to.
The Metal Experience started this journey as an online radio show back in 2011. Over this time we have watched our fan base grow as well as ourselves as a team. Our show is dedicated to supporting the local and unsigned metal and punk bands that range from our very own local Chicago areas to bands around the country and world who reach out to us looking to gain more exposure. https://www.facebook.com/themetalexperience
We originally had teamed up with online radio station "Slam Internet Radio" when we first started. This had been our home base for the past 4 years. How our show would work is that the guest coming on would pay $20. This money would not go to us but was used to help pay for the air time and station fees as well as go towards part of the rent that the station had to pay. Our show broadcasted once a week on Tuesday nights 8-10 PM. In those 2 hours the guest(s) on are able to use that time for promoting their band or organization. We have a lot of fun playing their music, interviewing them and just hanging out getting to know them. We've built a lot of amazing relationships over the years with a lot of these people, from seeing them play live, keeping in contact with them, even having them back on our show multiple times. It's a very rewarding feeling for all of us and we really do enjoy doing it.
As of June 26th, we got the news that the station was closing down (without any real notice to us) and we were forced to cancel all of our scheduled guests for July due to this dramatic change. As you can imagine, this is a huge inconvenience because we are booked almost through all of January of 2016. There was a brief moment of panic because of all the hard work that we have put into our show and suddenly we were struggling to figure out how to continue doing what we love.
Thankfully we have found a new home to host our show from in the Wicker Park Area of Chicago thanks to our friends in Evolution Music. The place they are going to be opening very soon is a music based store where they will sell and buy music equipment and instruments, offer lessons and more. We feel like this is the perfect place for us to fit in now because we will be working with people who are involved in the music industry and it would be a great way to promote both parties. This means that us as a show will no longer be linked with an online radio station like how we were with Slam Internet Radio. Our show will now be produced and distributed on our own.
We are hoping that by August we will be up and running once more. We are asking for $1000 to help us get back on our feet. We still (for the time being) have to ask each guest to bring $20 to contribute to the air time and fees to help run our show independently, but now out of our pockets we are paying more money to pay for a higher rent fee (not to say we are not willing to do so because we are dedicated to our show). We also need our own equipment.
We are looking to buy new microphones, headphones, an “on air” sign to place in the window of the building to draw attention, a new computer hard drive to strictly be used to store our shows and programs that record our show, flyers to pass out around the area to promote and to get a few posters to help us advertise our new place etc. By doing this, we hope that we can gain advertising from businesses around the area, either by putting commercials on our show or on our website. This will help to cut our costs for the rent and to stop asking our guests for their hard earned money (which we hate asking from them).
We’ve met some amazing people on this journey and we are very lucky to be given the opportunities that we have. We hope by finally being an independent show that we can grow even bigger and do even more amazing things to help this genre of music be heard. The Metal Experience means the world to all of us and one day we hope that we will be able to make this a career. We want to continue supporting, promoting and sponsoring unsigned metal and punk bands worldwide. We know how hard it is to make it in this industry and we are willing to keep pushing, so please help us by donating (anything you can will mean everything to us) so that we can continue to help more bands be heard and continue to become an even more recognizable show.
