Gay rights and work place discrimination
Hi everyone, I know this is rare for me to do a journal on here but I needed to because the amount of rage I have right now is over flowing. I work in a kitchen as a prep chef for Sodexo, a world wide food service company, that says they have no tolerance for discrimination of many areas including sexual orientation. Now when in the US it was ruled that it was constitutionally right for gay people to marry one of my coworkers said that it was "an abomination" that it was allowed. Well since I thought maybe it had not been passed I asked, she then said to my face that yes it had been passed and I qoute "I personally think its sick. And god will take care of them in the end." Now if it weren't for the news that I couldn't finally get married to my loving mate she would have had a black eye after that. The Monday after that was said, cause my manager wasn't there till then, I told her what the employee had said and asked only for a discussion with the whole kitchen, of 5 people, about discrimination. My manager apologized a lot for what was said and told me she would do that. Now this Monday, about 2 weeks after what happened, there was a less then 5 minute discussion on "respecting others" no mention of discrimination at all. Now yesterday I told her that I didn't think that there was enough done. She said that it was already 2 weeks after the indecent, she waited 2 weeks we could have done the discussion the day I told her of it, and that the comment was directed at me.... Also that she would talk to the site manager about what to do next but he wasn't there right now.... So I'm looking for comments on here about what you think. And to vent
honestly, the real abomination is that people just won't stop hating each other :(
I don't think your boss will do anything, either, not unless the situation escalates, unfortunately. That's how people in charge are.
I'm glad to listen if you need to talk/vent, though.
