SO, this year's trip to the US comes to an end
10 years ago
I'm writing this journal the night before having to take the plane back to Chile. Because, who knows what might happen.
The three weeks I was in the US were amazing, meeting new people, going places, etc.
First, I spent one week and a half at
runningred's place. We went to many places near Portland (ME): Old Port, Maine Wildlife Park, York's Wild Kingdom, etc. We also went hiking to many places: Part of Mount Agamenticus, Douglas Mountain, Pleasant Mountain... I'll be always grateful of him and his housemate for always having ideas of places to go (including a visit to Buffalo Wild Wings, where I bought a particular set of wings I couldn't finish for being TOO spicy for me). If I start trying to remember everything I'll never stop writing.
And I got my new laptop! That told me a lesson: NEVER AGAIN trust Amazon and their availability, seriously this is the very first time I'm so disappointed by their service. I ended buying it at B&H and I had an awesome experience with them.
Then, it came the trip to AC.
staggard drove from her house to RunningRed's so we could choose which car would be better for us (in terms of space). After trying to fit our luggage in Tag's car and realizing it wouldn't do, we used RunningRed's car and all was fine. Then, we had to go as quickly as possible to NYC to pick up
deejaydragon, who was going to arrive from UK.
Long story short, we ended taking more time than expected, and poor DeeJay had to wait for us for more time than expected in the NYC airport. Also, there was a horrible weather that I don't want to experience again: extreme heat and humidity, plus rain!.
We stayed at an inn (after discarding one we almost stayed at, there was something shady about it we didn't like) and the following day we continued our trip... after going for breakfast and buying stuff for AC.
(for the AC part check previous journals)
After AC i took a plane to San Jose (CA) to visit
sdwolf, arriving on Monday night after a couple of delays and gate changes. Extremely disappointed with United Airlines, they didn't compensate us with anything about the big delays (not even a courtesy snack or something). And the in-flight entertainment was a paid DirecTV service, ugh.
The first couple of days (tue. and wed.) I rested and stayed at home after having so little rest the previous days.
On Thursday, Shadow's mate (Steele) took me around the San Jose downtown to know the convention center where FC is held, and the Museum of Innovation (it's more for kids but interesting anyways). After that, he took me to Wicked Chicken... where there was some local furs. Then, more and more kept coming until there was a big group of furries hanging around, even some wearing fursuits! I had been warned that this meeting occurs every single Thursday of the year. There I met a lot of new people (exchanging twitter/FA accounts and all of that), noticing that the furs around this area really like to hang out together
Yesterday (friday) we went early to the Museum of Computer History... WOW, I took lots of pictures as I was drooling from what I was seeing. Then, we met Shadow for "lunch" and after that we went to the Winchester Mystery house and took the tour... it's a shame they don't allow taking photos and the superspeedtalkingguide didn't help much :P
And today... we went to Furries in the Wild, an annual meeting of local furs at the Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland (CA). There was food, music, good company... and fursuits! I never imagined I'd see people wearing suits in a BBQ setting (you know, with dirt, leaves and all that). I saw people I had met previously on thursday and met new people as well, having a great time... but the real surprise was to see
zhivagod and
majestysabertoof again! (I had resigned to not see them again until next time, after saying byebye post AC). After FITW we went to a bowling place in Fremont... it was Furbowl time! We spent more time hanging out outside while waiting for the league (that was being played by other people) to finish than in the bowling itself, but it was fun to see anyways.
*Fun fact: I took more photos today at FITW than all the AC days combined.
I want to explicitly thank:
- RunningRed: For always having ideas of what to do and where to go, for helping me with the B&H people on the phone, and for driving me around even though he mentioned he doesn't like driving that much ^^;
- Steele (SDWolf's mate): For being patient with me and driving me around even though he wasn't my direct host (it's SDWolf, but he isn't taking days off to entertain me) and for taking me in a hurry to Fry's before closing. Mad props to his speed driving skills.
To all the people involved: thanks for making this 3 weeks an incredible time. Hope to come back a next time, don't know when will that be.

I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to show you the cool stuff in NH (Flume, Washington, Lost River, Polar Caves) but maybe another year.
And my dislike of driving is mostly long distance driving alone (gets boring). Short trips, or with company are less of a problem (except when everyone else naps )
