Introducing: AES!
...Otherwise known as the Artist Experience System, seen in my profile info.
Q: What is AES?
A: AES is a simple leveling system that rewards artists for tasks they complete.
Q: But... why?
A: As someone who likes to create art I often find myself lacking motivation to start something, but usually when I get going, I enjoy the process. Even though there is no real reward to completing these art pieces, for most people, myself included, seeing a bar go up because of something you did makes you feel accomplished. A pat on the back, if you will...something about psychology.
Q: How did this come to be?
A: As silly as it may sound, a few friends and myself at my university decided to make a spreadsheet where if we did well on a test or completed a bunch of homework assignments, etc. we would be rewarded an achievement with a funny name that was either relevant to the week or subject at hand. Needless to say, after this was implemented, everyone saw a noticeable GPA boost for that term. After that, I already knew I wanted some sort of reward system and after seeing
Sky3's profile with his level thing, I knew what I wanted to do.
Q: Can I implement AES into my profile?
A: Absolutely! I encourage anyone who likes the idea to implement it into their profiles!
Q: Where can I find the data on this information?
A: Spreadsheet
Q: Can I change the reward points / needed points to level?
A: If you want to rehash the math and everything, go right ahead.
Q: Can I make a recommendation?
A: Absolutely! I encourage any form of feedback that may help the Artist Experience System.
Q: I think this idea is dumb.
A: Well...not exactly a question, but okay! That's fine by me, just simply ignore it then. ;)

The challange is to find a balance between fixed rewards for fixed tasks and spontanous changes because of individual situations. If you're too strict with your system, it's likely that some solved tasks will feel unfairly rewarded (cause it's impossible to predict how much 'worth' every single really is beforehand). On the other hand, if you just decide how much XP you get after you did something, the whole system gets blurry and less motivating.
But after all, good luck with your system, I hope you'll have fun with it! ^^
