When she came back online after having to process that last question for a while, she usurped the security clearance they had convinced her to grant them, leaving them completely at her mercy. The look on their faces was great XD
The most recent was from a Star Wars Saga Edition, a Togorian named Raknar. On the run slave from an illegal underground pit fighting ring. Got so into the story of him that I even made what I considered to be suboptimal mechanical choices as they fit his story. I'll never forget how in a boarding action, when the two ships were forced apart, he was saved from getting sucked into vacuum by using a Destiny point, resulting in him being on the correct side of a piece of cargo that sealed the hole just well enough to reduce the vacuum enough for him to escape the cargo bay before it completely depressurized. That, and he ended up finding a stowaway massiff on the ship that he tamed and named Mutt. I liked Mutt.
The other notable name was Snorri Shadowseer, an anthro Jaguar scout from a sadly short lived D&D campaign. Lethal with a pair of handaxes, and the quality of both the DM and players of that game made playing his low charisma straight an entertaining RP experience. With how the DM played the system, Snorri had some pretty respectable scars earned through play, including a nasty burn on his face that was only partially healed with magic
Another was a Good aliened nearly god tier Pyromancer who was recently made a widower, still grieving for his paladin wife, the players manipulated him into a grief filled weapon. They manipulated him into taking out the leaders of a criminal syndicate so they could take over. The player's dickery made him more interesting.
A Starfleet officer who was transported to forgotten realms and appeared every so often to try and convince the wizards that magic didn't exist.
A quest giving NPC who was once a wizard but was turned into a talking Red panda who had a crush on a merchant family's adopted Tiefling Daughter.
The Tiefling daughter who instead of taking over her adoptive family's business became the Warlock version of batman. She does her best to avoid the wizard's tower since there is a talking red panda who keeps flirting with her. The kings son is also in love with her and there is a comic subplot of the handsome wealthy prince vying for her affections against a talking Red panda while she wants none of that.
A fearless halfling who wanted to fight EVERYTHING. The players were meant to remove the curse that made him hyper aggressive but they ended up kicking him into the sea.
A Bard who could not speak any language but would sing glossolalia that would inspire the grief, beauty and the best part of people's spirit. The player were given a quest to kill her from an evil noblemen trying to start a war by manipulating the king, The players instead took her to the battlefeild before the war started had her sing from a cliff overlooking the battle feild and reduced the armies to tears and caused the kingdoms to reconcile and unite into a larger country. She then ascended to godhood while the healing focussed priestess of the party beat the crap out of the corrupt noble with her dainty elven fists.
A formerly super evil necromancer who turned good and left his cult behind to become a healer of undead related illnesses, the players first meet him in a village defending it from a horde of zombies sent by his former cult members. The party was sent to kill him as the world thinks he still leads the cult and has returned to start the zombie apocalypse. Eventually party figures out the guy who single handedly defended a church full of innocent people from a zombie horde was their target. They instead of killing him beat up a bandit wizard and turned him in as this evil cult leader.
The Last one was a cursed child who was the reincarnated lover of a dead godlike being who vowed to grieve for her forever, so he would be reborn again and again and spend his host mortal life making them grieve at her grave site. The quest was to release the child from this curse. The players succeed by resurrecting this goddess from before the cosmos and the grieving spirit left the child. I was asked to not make such a character again because it depressed them too much.
i have some that i wrote up but never got to use and some of these character were from one session campaigns so they didn't get as much use as they deserved.
Not used: A trifecta of gods each associated with a star who were in fact all one god. They were all gods of war and violence. A Noble one Violence used to save the weak and Defend the innocent, a neutral one that represented violence to survive such as self defense or other killing to survive, and a Vile one who was the evil god of rampant ultra violence for the sake of killing and reveling in death. The goal was for the players to kill one of these gods which they would find they would have kill all three. I had the final battle intended that the Noble and neutral gods would kill themselves as the player defeated the vile god releasing humanity from their influences.
Other characters I've made that people seemed to have liked:
Zombie Man, a boorish superhero who is completely full of himself, tasked with hunting evil supernatural beings. His powers are the result of a voodoo curse that grants him resistance to extreme damage...resistance, but not healing! He also harbors the strength of the undead but shares their weakness to fire. His sidekick is an elderly man wearing a suit of home made power armor who calls himself The Old Jalopy. Jalopy is actually his alter-ego's boss.
There's the highly manipulative and Machiavellian Machine God, who can grant incredible power to characters but has influence over virtually everything, running his followers through an Orwellian power structure in which literally any machine or device serves as a conduit for his power. His physical manifestation however, is a palm-sized cube of gears.
2. Steve Steveson, PC. A werebear who worked for a monster hunting organization called Overwatch Inc. in a modern fantasy setting. He traveled with fellow Overwatch member, Steve (everyone who worked at Overwatch was named Steve, it was a requirement for hire) and a representative from the Vatican, Father Alexander. In werebear form he once took the arm off of a demon with his axe by throwing it. He had a habit of trying to steal evil artifacts.
3. Kevin the Spork, NPC. Intelligent weapon that I had made for my custom world. It's a legendary artifact in the form of a spork that was originally crafted by a master smith in the dwarven capital to use has his personal dining utensil however it found greater purpose as a weapon and over the centuries became imbued with power.
4. Timandrianospheranicalosanulliver, NPC. Human sorcerer and defacto leader of a small town named Nonamé. Most residents simply call him Tim and consider him something of an enchanter. Everything in the town threw gaming convention out the window. Home of the Imperial Kobold Bardic Troupe (known for their bagpipes), barbarian elf tavern owner, and a chaotic good necromancer (think Snow White but with half-rotten animals interacting with him) who was always at odds with the town priest, a lawful evil cleric who happened to be his twin.
5. Father Volkov, PC. A Russian priest in 1930's New York who escaped Russia during the communist takeover. Inexplicably owns a shotgun and highlight of his gaming career includes jumping out of a garbage bin while using a 'holy awe' power to shock and frighten three gangsters chasing him while blowing the brains out of the nearest one. Worthy of note: he spoke no English and relied on a fellow Russian expatriate for translation.
6. Ivan McManus, PC. An alcoholic who got caught up inside the quarantine area of the zombie outbreak. Thought it was a good idea to help steal a police car and then drive up to the quarantine border and talk to the guards for permission to leave. They didn't want to leave the knocked out cop on the street so they stuffed him in the trunk. Guess who reanimated while talking to the guards.
Second would be an elf water mage I used in a local homebrew system. Water mages are good at changing things into other things. Including themselves. He also studies chemistry. It'd be nice if he didn't accidentally explode things around him as often as he does.
Third is another character made in the same homebrew. She is currently a dwarf with control over two different wereforms. She was a priest of justice but decided that the restrictions of the priesthood kept her from helping people so she switched to worshipping an off world God.
Fourth is an npc briarelf artist I made as a love interest for a friend's character.
Fifth is Gramps. I am currently playing him on a fallout based heroes rule set campaign. Gramps is being a spec ops style badass and grows pot.
I certainly have dozens of dozens more.. yet these are forever1 – A’arthax, the AshWing, Scourge of the North (NPC) – Red Dracolich, disciple of Ashardalon – a spin off from an adventure I found using an albino red dragon – Arthax lair was hidden on the frozen north and used ilusions and elemental substitution to make all believe he was an ice dragon… was a minor character, just the end boss of an adventure, yet how that adventure unfolded and the fact he survived, made him bigger… my players still remember and talk about him, saying he was the true campaign boss and major villain..
2 – Lord Kross’yx FrostBite (NPC) – White/Silver Dragon, Frostmage and RuneCarved Dragon – Used magic to walk the world after knowledge and artifacts as an Elf Wizard… For some reason, no player for over a year of game ever considered using True Sight, ever... quite a surprise when he said what he was. Was also Lord of 3 villages at the north (along with his 2 brothers (Kryo’rix Blizzard Wings, Beacon of Bahamut ; and Kel-Villaroth Blizzard Wings – The Blue-Icy Maw of the North; both also White / Silver Dragons)… Kross’yx was a helper, a funny mirror to the flame wizard of the group and the only group healer (using skills and itens).
3 – Myself – Zebak LongFang – Both as PC (on a starwars game, saved many, helped destroy a droid factory, exploded a moon and destabilized a planets orbit) and as NPC (he is present in both my own starwars and D&D game)… He is not a major NPC, yet is remember5ed for best in-character moments (most remembered moment was on being found, weak and wounded as a pet for ogres… I had a very sore throat and my voice decided to fail me greatly the exact moment I was speaking as Zebak..)
4 – The Blue Critter from Hell (I forgot his name, PC) – half a meter tall, blue critter (I should upload art of him someday), knows dark magic with a focus on black flame, have a thing for big heavy weapons and portable artillery, often seen standing on top of one of said (floating) weapons… Was from a dungeoneering campaign of “99 levels” (each level a diferent dungeon).. responsible for causing a few players to scream “that speaks !?!” when first meeting on of my critter PCs (almost every new game)… Also, what happens when you need a silly character after a Quake gaming spree over 2 months..
5 – Project 636, Salamander, aka “Zhangeez” or “Z” – Initially born for a Supers campaign (who somehow was much stronger then the group’s superman-wannabe), this 1,2m tall furball was once described as a “Siberian Malamute” or a the weirdest dog (he was given a holo projector yet it mostly hid his large claws). This fire powered demolitionist living-weapon turned rogue latter saw a return on two other superhero games and also became a common critter for my own world / game project. While a hero, “Z” learned to manifest “cloud wings” at will. The concept idea was as a whatever-mon with powers based on Magi Nation, a game I played at the time.
Note: ancient b&w sketch here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14546030/
6, 6, “6”, 7 – The Lord, The Lord, “The Lord” and the Dark Rider (NPCs) – From my Evil Campaign… The Lords are the name of the gods, that somehow no NPC ever mixes who the dark one or light one… The “” one replaced the dark one and caused the existence of hell and its long lasting blood wars with the Abyss. The Dark Rider was the major force that united the group (by using all the chaos of their first meeting (and triggering half of it) as a major sacrifice and binding them under a Great Curse.. In fact he is a high level Nightmare with magic itens and zealot belief in The (dark) Lord..
8 – Kami Sama, The Mountain Guardian, the Cherry Tree Savage Beast-Monk – I long forgot his original name… He started as a Kuabara-like (with spirit sword) on what started as a Yu-Yu-Hakusho based silly game. That game latter got influenced by other anime and even FF games and not only lasted for over 2 years but also had the biggest player count (almost 30, with only 3 permanent). Uppon finding he was part oni (demon) and that he was leaving the normal mortal world, he left his own humanity to become a full-demon… Latter he added Earth then Fire to his power-list, latter followed by Dark Flame, Dark Earth and Nature – the last one the reason and source of becoming the guardian kami-sama of the planet they ended at and being the champion of a neutral side.
9 – Hass’aak (PC) – One from mIRC RP – Member of a insectoid species I called Vol’ken and the leader of his hive (thus more independent). As all from his kind, he was feverish hot (with inside being even hotter) and cold “burned” his thick hide and shell. He loved music, learned a thing or two about magic and even learned about the concept of “love”… At one time, he helped luring bears to add to his hive, returning the next year as a cub and a half-Vol’ken half-bear hybrid (or infested bear)… He was a peacefull, innocent, happy critter and I played as him for well over a decade (except during winter) and hold dearly the memory as how he changed overtime, learning much and meeting new people along the way.. He and the Vol’ken are much of the inspiration for my Hive idea (both game and possible mini-comic)..
10 – Honourable Mention – "The Crocodile" – On an undead-themed dungeon full of skeletons, there was a well as the catacombs with a giant dire-crocodile that was a shadow-creature.. When climbing / wrecking his way up the well, upon hearing the players, someone screamed “it’s a shadow dragon!” and after a preparation round, a lucky roll (1 for me, 16+ for them) they had the initiative… and promptly gave their everything to end the “foul nightmare of a beast that for certain was the major boss”.. including the kitchen sink.. with twice as much damage as it had HP, it died at the cinematic, rising from the well only to crash dead at the floor… (I did got revenge latter on with two others, yet this one is forever remembered by my players…)
10: D20 Modern, D'athre Mae. A Drow in living in the modern era who became a professional motorcycle racer who tended to use some unconverntional methods to win her races. She became the foil to one of the PC's in my game who was also a professional racer.
9: GURPS, Adaraid the Imortal. A wizard who had lived for hundreds of years due to a pact made with a demon. In his floating island he conducted magical research and when he got bored would add to his collection of petrified women. He wound up losing one eye to one of these captives and would be statues when she didn't quite fall under his hypnotic spell.
8: Star Wars RPG (WOTC), Fleet Admiral Tyr Lenn. A veteren of the clone wars who rose in the ranks of the Imperial Star-Fleet. Noted for carying the light sabre of one of the Jedi he killed after the war had ended and also his "lead from the front" attitude toward battle.
7: AD&D 2nd Edition, Ayer the Red. Another wizard with corrupt plans, this time having used a clone and contingency spell to have an ace up his robe in case he ever met with ill fortune. He was also heavily involved in a cult of Vecna.
6: AD&D 3rd Edition, Elithandalirous. An elven wizard who was known for keeping to the shadows, not because he was evil and trying to stay hidden but rather because his years of research in dark, dusty halls had lead him to become sensitive to the sun and prone to sunburn. He had a problem of being mistaken for an elven woman because of his long blonde hair and fair features.
5: AD&D 3rd Edition, Grumal. Being a half-orc thief may be a rough way to make a living but by the time he assassinated every thief over him in the guild and took charge himself few would doubt his dedication to his trade.
4: AD&D 2nd Edition, Gloomwing. A half -elf assassin who had taken on the namesake of a dreaded monster, used his good looks and peoples tendancy to believe that the more attractive people around them are on their side to get away with murder. He often worked with several thieves and mages who employed him for various jobs on a semi regular basis that also saw him clash with the PCs on several occasions and get away like a classic comic book bad guy.
3: D20 Past Major Heinrich Zimmerman. Having faught in the Great War in the trenches he aspired to become a great tactical leader if his country ever called on him again. When the Second World War began he was placed in charge of a division of SA troops and quickly became known for his tactical prowess as well as his ability to smell a trap. He rose through the ranks and was given his own unit named the Eisenfaust Wache (Ironfist Guard). While not believing in Hitlers idea of a Aryan race and in many cases actively working against the SS he became a wildcard for the PCs, sometmes friend, but mostly foe.
2: D20 Appocalypse, A.I.D.N. (Artificially Intelegent Defense Network). Yeah it's a Skynet clone, so sue me. The difference here is that in this case the network was located on the former ISS and used communications satalites to broadcast orders and information to drone like robots on earths surface creating a hive mind among all the enemy units. This threat was eventually defeated by the combined use of a virus that slowed its transmission to ground forces and then the sabotage of the space station rockets, causing the orbit to decay and the station to burn up on reentry.
1: Hunter: The Reconing, Rasp: A mask styled slasher who had been a marine in the first Gulf War. Somewhere in the course of the conflict his unit was exposed to *removed section* which resulted in psychopathic violent behavior. After his unit was reported overdue to return from patrol they were found in a box canyon, all dead with the exception of PFC Timmothy Roberts. It was found that any attempt to remove his gas mask resulted in him attacking anyone in sight and so he was transported back to the US for psychological treatment and study. He became a medical marvel as he neither took in food or water but kept living. His obsession with wearing his mask continued and even dangerous levels of sedatives could not allow doctors to remove the item. After killing six orderlies and four surgeons in an attempt to remove the mask he was transferred to a maximum security military prison. En route the MPs and attending physician were slaughtered and he escaped. Some time after that people started talking about a lone figure in a ghost town of a former army base (decommissioned) and homeless who went there to take refuge were most often never seen again. The party became wise to this and checked out the urban legend, finding it to be completely true. they believed that having shot him in the head with a .50AE magnum twice that he was dead, however this was only a minor setback as he later woke up while his autopsy was ongoing, killing the ME and escaping into the subway systems of Chicago. His VASCU file is still open.
My PC list
3: AD&D 3rd Edition, Nalo Freerunner: A fighter/thief halfling who had run afoul of Grumal and the Chimera Guild, he joined up with a party of adventurers. His ability to vanish from sight and hit from the shadows using his throwing daggers became the stuff of legend.
2: AD&D 2nd Edition, Ian MacTavish. My first character. He ws short lived since he was better at looking tough than standing his ground in a fight and soon wound up in over his head. This was what sparked my interest in RPGs and my love affair with the thief class.
1: AD&D 3rd Edition, Allan Clarke. A wizard who lived in the Dread Realms and primarially based on an amalgam of different Peter Cushing characters from different Hammer films. He was an undead hunter who used his knowledge of the arcane to help the living in their battle to stem the tide of the undead.
5) Nicholas Calder, human smart hero, used as anything from a lawyer to a hacker, depending on what he's needed for.
4) Jack Carter, variably used as either a US Marshal or some other sort of enforcer for the US Government, a human with a very snarky attitude toward the whole idea of the supernatural and metahumans at large.
3) Harkem Fleet, human fighter/scoundrel, used in various continuities as a "businessman" of sorts, loosely based on the old west and constantly seeking get rich quick schemes. Often times, he can be found delving into some other ruin in search of lost treasure in a very Indiana Jones fashion, or looking to secure more investors for his latest scheme.
2) Scarlett "the Harlot" Nodel, human rogue/master thrower, who despite missing an eye and therefore having no depth perception, could still put a throwing knife (or anything else that she could get her hands on) right between someone's eyes. She tended to serve as either a mercenary or member of Galonodel's secret police.
1) Galonodel, human psion (telepath), used in various continuities as the head of secret police forces that protect the king or other political power bases.
I'll stick with five for right now, because if I keep going then I'm going to be here for hours... XD
