I Bought Monster Hunter 4

Am I cool now? Can I sit at the cool kids table with my MH4?
I decided to pick up MH4 because I was looking for some new gaming experiences that weren't as expensive as the $60 console games, and I've heard nothing but good things about it. Plus the monsters look really cool. I've only had time to play a little bit of the game, but so far it's definitely like nothing I've played before. It's a lot more difficult for a newbie like me to the series, I've had some difficulty getting the hang of things (I've had trouble taking down a Great Jaggia). But I think I'll get it down with some practice. I don't know all the hunting techniques yet, but maybe more of those will be taught to me as I progress through the game. So far I think I like it, but I haven't gotten completely hooked into it yet like I have with other games. But just give that some time.

Welcome to the love that is Monster hunter. <3
There's a TON of DEEP content within the game and some of it isn't taught in game at all. Like how Sharpness and Elemental damages work. Armor and gem decorating to suit skills to your play style, items that can help you in battle that really affect how each hunt goes. A ton of different things.
I recommend getting a feel for each weapon to begin with! Use the training weapons quests from your Guildmarm and figure out what weapon suits your playstyle the best. I recommend focusing on 1 weapon for now and learn others. Weapons are like Smash brother characters... find the one that fits the way you play the best!
You'll learn and get stronger with skills as you play and it's one of those games where you ALWAYS get better by playing. You learn how monsters work, how to position and where to hit a monster for their weakest points.
One place I recommend is going to this youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT.....fSSD_iMfpKbFbA Gaijin Hunter. He posts TONS of monster hunter information and gives tutorials on each weapons so you can learn some of the advance techniques for each weapon through video form rather than text.
It's my favorite game series and I love the death out of it... and it is one hell of a ride~ <3
