Instead of an alien invasion it would have started with a secret government project within the bowels of Area 51. The scientists would be working on a new drone technology that could rebuild itself when being hit by conventional weaponry. On one of the computers a scientist would be playing emulator games and suddenly gets an email entitled, "Penis Growth that will impress any women!" Being a nerd and single he clicks on it, infecting his computer with a virus. The virus merges with the emulator and the drone programing and wala! deadly video game drones. The facility is overun by old time video game monsters!
Then of course we'd move to a bunch of nerdy guys at e3 or some star wars convention. They are so nerdy they even have some inventions out in their van. One being a reworked NES light gun that should be playable on modern tv's. Video Game monsters attack and the nerds are the only ones who can fend off the video game monsters. They use the internet (youtube) to spread the knowledge to other nerds to build video game fighting tools.
Cut to the large battle of Military and video game monsters. The military is loosing ground and soon the city they are protecting will be overwhelmed. They start to pull out after their weaponry is deemed ineffective. As Abrams tanks and trucks full of soldiers flee the battlefield, cars and vehicles begin to pass them by towards the incoming horde of video game monsters. Vehicles such as deloreans and echo-1's to night rider and various other eighties vehicles come to a stop. Nerds step out, dressed as various eighties characters get out of their cars with their own made guns and begin to fight the video game monsters. Hell one is has a gun that looks like a ghost buster proton pack.
In short, video game nerds of the past save the day and there is no sign of that talentless hack Adam Sandler.

Nice idea with the emulator!
Fortunatley, with the internet today, it's much MUCH easier to either be seen or actually see other peoples works(no matter on which form) that aren't on that glamour club. There's hidden gems everywhere for those that taskes the time to seek! It's just too bad that not everyone gets the popularity they deserve!
