C'mon, Hollywood, what else can you fuck up?

--DIALOGUE OPEN--
Sssoooo... have you seen the new images for the new Ghostbusters movie? Come to find out that it's no longer a sequel, but another fucking reboot. Because the first Ghostbusters did so terrible at it. A reboot, if done right, can be a good thing. Sometimes you bring new ideas to the table, maybe update with new technology, both in the movie and filming it, perhaps find actors that do the original justice.
However, Ghostbusters will not be one of those movies. It's such a bad idea that they aren't even going to use an original idea, they're actually using the original plot from the first movie. The major difference is that it's "now" and an all female cast. I don't have a problem with a gender swap in movies, as long as it's not stepping on the toes of other movies. Let's say for instance that they decided to reboot Scarface and said, "you know what would make this movie rock? If we cast Megan Fox as the lead role!".
An all female cast of Ghostbusters isn't such a bad thing, it'd be neat to see what they can do... however, one such actress on the team is Melissa McCarthy... ugh... if you're a fan, I apologize. Like Megan Fox, I don't see the appeal. She's not funny, loud and obnoxious. I've always had this theory in music that if you play bad, you play it louder so people can't tell how bad you are. The same can nearly always be applied to acting, especially comedy. If you can't act and can't act funny, just be loud and yell a lot. Now, some people can pull it off, like Chris Farely, but part of it was the writing and the people he had acting around him. McCarthy is about as funny as a rock.
I mentioned the plot. While some sites say the plot is "yet unknown", I read on a news site that the basic gist of the story is one of the team members writes a book about ghosts, trying to prove they exist, then gets "thrown out" of college when the book resurfaces years later because no one takes her seriously. She and her friends decide to start a business to catch ghosts and even have a Cadillac hearse for their vehicle. In New York. Sound just a tad familiar?
I was really hoping for a real sequel, something like what Star Wars is doing by passing the torch to the new generation of actors. I know Ivan Reitman is gone, but we still had Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murry, they could have been "retiring" and gone on to teach new members. I did read that Murray said the only way he'd do a new movie is if he was a ghost. he would too :P
I get that Hollywood has now become this company that is afraid to take chances, but for fuck's sake, they've scraped the bottom of the barrel so much that it's poked a hole through into the ground.
Yes, another fail reboot that will once again remind people what not to watch and when you ask them "hey, did you see "that movie"?" They'll be like "yeah, I hated it" when you REALLY mean the original. No one seems to remember the original Total Recall or Robocop anymore *sighs*

That one
The worst part is I know they're gonna typecast Melissa McCarthy as the 'loudmouth manatee that figuratively and literally throws her weight around, screeching as she does it'. She got to deliver some clever lines in Mike & Molly it's just annoying that they wonder why we find new stuff stale and boring or automatically despise it when we can see it's just some BS exec's threw an idea on the table and everyone said 'bingo'. "Ghostbusters: rule 63" "BRILLIANT!".
And everytime they get mention they keep throwing out "all-female" as if that's the ONLY thing that's gonna make this movie great or that the only redeeming quality is that the main cast is entirely female.

OK, I'll stop. But yeah, I agree with that.
Fuck Hollywood. Fuck all these inane stupid reboots, and fuck the people trying to ruin Ghostbusters.
haven't you learned by now not to ask questions you really don't want the answers to?
take Deadpool for instance. Im SO there for midnight release.
~clips leash onto collar~ You and I need to have a few words about this in private. ~leads off~
:x Miss ya.
I have hopes for the star wars movie. it could not be any worse than the prequels.
The only movie i've enjoyed this year so far was mad max fury road. oh my god is that a fantastic movie. that movie is a ten out of ten.
Well, I had hope for those, but now that you said that, I guess my hopes are dashed.
Avengers wasn't bad, but it was basically the first movie but with ultron instead of loki. the ironman vs. hulk scene was awesome though.
JJ Abrams should be able to pull off Star Wars. His style of directing is better suited for star wars than star trek. i think he might even do a darn good job.
I have the latter on DVD somewhere and am terrified about watching the reboot because of what happened with Total Recall's reboot. >_>
Ghostbusters, as with Total Recall and Robocop, were pretty much the movies that made up my childhood. (Total Recall gave me so many nightmares as a kid - that fat suit, man... xD ) I'll give the reboot a watch, but only when it's on DVD and less than £10 to buy. Other than that, I'm happy to stick with the original Ghostbusters movies.
(but srsly, why couldn't Hollywood just go with the whole Extreme Ghostbusters thing? Waste of an opportunity and storyline, tbh).
I still think they could have done a story of the original characters retiring their plasma packs to a new group, but no, they have to screw it all up...
I hear rumour that the new Robocop is worth a watch...
Fuck movies. Who the hell needs movies when you have PC gaming, anyway?
But you are right, they DO exist.
LOOKING AT YOU, PACIFIC RIM 2.
In fact, I totally WANT to see that.
DO IT, DEL TORO. DO IT. DO IT NOW. DO IT TODAY.
Stuff like that. Most people went into the movie expecting dumb action, and it has plenty of that, but it's still one where there's plenty of thinking in it, if you're looking for it or paying attention, anyway...
...Yeah, I'm a PR fanboy. I mean, hell, I even designed two fan-made "concept Jaegers" that were ones that never made it into production in the canon. XD
I loved the movie, it was unique, but also familiar because of it's heavy anime ties. The two scientists, Geiszler and Gottlieb, and Tendo were dead give aways, especially Tendo when he had that ridiculous outfit with the bow tie, eastern animators for some reason love to put squirrely characters in outfits with suspenders and bow ties :P
I didn't even really have much of a history of watching mechanimes as a kid, nor did I even have that much of an interest in mecha vs. kaiju stuff, or even just simply mecha or kaiju stuff independently, but then a couple friends talked me into watching Pacific Rim. While I lacked a nostalgic connection to a past of that kind of thing, I can definitely see why so many people who grew up with that stuff loved it. It definitely introduced me into the genre quite favorably.
And Voltron looks like delicious 80s cheese.
A. Retire and hand over the business to the new cast
B. Set up a franchise. There have to be ghosts in cities other than New York, right?
Personally, I'd love to see the 1954 version. You know, the one starring Bob Hope, Dean Martin, and Fred MacMurray...
