Microshit Rant
I need to rant >.<
4.5 weeks ago i bought a Acer Tablet brand new.. on its screen at the store it showed that it was windows 10 verified and was 100% compatible so i bought it... ( i would usually NEVER buy anything Windows 8/8.1 as to me its an epic turd even for touchscreen tablets but meh it said 10 ready)
BIIIIG mistake -.- $390 later and i come home crack the box open run the microsoft 10 ready program and this totally sealed unit says the same thing its 100% compatible..
i wait and wait and wait for the first when 10 is released and i wake up on the first and go for my usual coffee and turn the tablet on and to my dismay theres a window open saying that this tablet is NOT 10 ready im like WTF!!!! so im like yeah ok whatever fine ill see if i can stick linux or even android on it.. next morning i wake up and its black screened with a bubble saying this system is locked out due to a stolen/invalid Windows 8 key.....
... uhmmm riiiiight
i call microsoft and bitch and find out that because i registered this tablet for the 10 upgrade the 8 key is defunct.. F&*(& that i said unlock it it takes 2 days of bitching and i finally reach my last straw and chuck the table out the window though the screen onto the driveway below... i get a call back saying that due to an internal bug the system that was invalid registered that it downloaded and installed 10 but never did and they saw the note saying the tablets invalid so they reinstated it xD..
yeah i go pickup the tablet and the digitizer exploded but the LCD did not ( is currently waiting for a replacement digitizer.. talking with friends they recommended getting a program from StarDock called Start8 and ModernMix.. i have been monkeying around for the past day with it and managed to make it work, run and feel like Windows 7..
Long story short.. Never beleive Microsoft when they say its compatible until the day the fucktards actually RELEASE IT
Pictures will be added momentarily
The Aftermath of being launched though a screened window on the second floor landing on the concrete driveway.

Would've just taken you about an hour to get it running again. Too bad I wasn't here earlier. xD;;
(on a side note Acers recovery can only be implemented vis windows itself for this line of tablets there was no options listed or found that worked a few said there was but theres 4 years a w500 series tablets w500 w510 gps version non gps version sim version, full SD sim readers non full sd sim readers
mine looks like an entry level W500 with a volume button power button disabled at start up micro TF card reader micro HDMI and micro USB. thats it
im a 17 year licensed and certified network admin, analyst xD
$2000 Acer republic of gamers laptop (JW Engineering Sample edition) with win7 pro (not going to 10)
$2000 Acer republic of gamers laptop (SW Edition) with win7 pro (not going to 10)
$4000 Dual Hex core with 7 Pro (Primary Desktop) nope nope all the nope to 10)
$7000 Quad Quad (4x Quad core proessors) Xeon with CentOS (Nope to 10)
$4500 Dual Quad with CentOS (Nope to 10)
2x caged OVH Hosted Dual i7's with Cent OS (Nope to 10)
$500 acer tablet with 8 yeah thats why i bought it to try 10 eventually i would of either sold or tossed it after seeing what 10 was about. none of my business and work machines technically need an OS they all work perfect.
I was ranting because of the way that they implement things and your image on the previous post actually denoted they DO still lock the key for 1 month but somewhere in my physical mail i have the full ToS from when 10 was first thought to being offered they listed as sacrificing said key and rollback was not an option i see it has been changed..
i used to beta test microsoft OS's but after the ME and 2000 fiascoes (now 8) yeahh i kinda stopped 2000 was actually good if the PROPER installation method and DRIVERS were installed i ran a 2000 machine for 7 years with 2 blue screens but i caused them well i caused 1 not both the one i didn't cause was a harddrive that died
(2000 also did have a niche with some hardware/manufacturing not playing nice with others or it wasnt as forgiving for people who play mix and match salvaging ram sticks from every junk PC they could find. or people who just by CRAP hardware like Benq and junk)
But someone already asked "What happens if my hardrive dies after the 1 year upgrade?"
The upgrade is free as long as your hardrive is up. If your hardrive dies you have to reinstall the previous OS with the same key then upgrade again to 10.
Basically what they said is. If your hardrive dies after the 1 year free upgrade. You're fucked. You can't upgrade to 10. X3
You could've just reinstalled Windows onto it. With all that experience, I'm just surprised you did that. <w> You don't need Acer's recovery to make it work. .w.
All tablets have Volume up + Power and you get into BIOS. You need a USB hub, a keyboard and a mouse. That's how you do it... x3 I have owned an Acer Iconia W500, the one with the AMD C-50. That's how I installed 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Linux, Android etcetc.
http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answer.....ia-tab-w500%3F
And I quote.
"With the tablet turned off, connect an external DVD optical drive into an available USB port and insert the first of the recovery discs.
Make sure the unit is plugged into AC power.
Press and hold the volume-up key and the Windows button simultaneously.
Press and release the power button while keeping the volume-up key and the Windows button held down.
Release the volume-up key and the Windows button once the screen comes on." See?
I just read yours doesn't have a full USB.
That said either a keyboard dock enables it or you have OTG through the micro USB port. x3
you can hit every key to your hearts content and it ignored it it wouldnt even register i was pressing anything until the login screen popped up but as soon as you hit ANY key on that screen it went your Windows installation key is invalid and shut down
"Walmart Customer Display Unit". it was custom configured by Acer to disable bootloading though ports to protect the integrity of all the display units" i have since been in contact with Acer who CONFIRMED via its serial number that the unit i have IN FACT was custom configured by them that Bios access and access to any type of drive (usb key/memory key/external usb harddrive) was 100% disabled via Boot options only though the admin panel within windows using the acer system configuration utility. they have since sent me a file to run to revert the display unit coding on the unit and re-flash the units bios back to a normal consumer unit.. IE my tablet is neutered..
I will be replacing the digitizer, just because i chucked it out the window doesn't mean its dead i just shattered its digitizer but still pisses me off to no end.
and again this package i got from MSDN though the mail was sent back in December when 10 wasnt even in beta and the TOS within it denotes the KEY will be disabled when the Upgrade to 10 is used (again listen this is before 10 was even brought out to consumers as an upgrade offer)i was going by that info and from what this tablet did it DID kill my Key and i DID call MSN who did look in the logs and when they ran the systems key DID "CONFIRM" the key was INVALIDATED by their systems due to the UPGRADE which they quickly reverted BACK to working...
windows isnt foolproof either are the idiots who programmed the backends at Microsoft. i can sit here all ay and list so many faults that can be reproduced.. we as a collective in my teamspea find flaws in windows and prank eachother constantly like find a fault with windows into fooling the systems thermal monitoring system into triggering a false alarm that something overheats and cause the system to go into emergency sleep/emergency shutdown... i was pranked by a friend 3 nights ago working on a ARK Primal server where they sent specific trigger commands and caused my 7 to cause NSprobe which is a thermal monitoring program for Asus laptops and they kept sleeping my laptop while working
either way i spent the entire day and part of the night trying to get the Acer laptop to boot from anything or even load into its energency recovery console i managed to get into said console which is DOS loading but again when i reverted the system to 8 it spat out invalid key..
THIS TABLET NEVER EVER was installed with 10. it SAID it was 10 ready so i bought it when i went to install it it said reserved i waited and woke up to the 10 ready application on the toolbar notified me " YOUR SYSTEM IS NOT 10 COMPATIBLE" windows 10 CANNOT and will not be installed.. it was ALWAYS 8 it was 8 that spat bad key.. the tablets 5 feet away from me in a box taken apart waiting for its brand new digitizer/LCD screen it will work again but this just strengthens WHY im slowly pulling away from microshit products not even products they SAY are ready for their shit ever work look up

But yeah I see the point now. x3 I didn't know that part. That sucks, but why'd you buy a tablet that was a display unit? That might of been the reason? Because, in all honesty the worst I've seen out of a Win10 install is missing GPU drivers and users uknowing how to fix it (Like our friend over there.). And it basically fixes itself once Windows Update kicks in.
Your tablet wouldn't run Win10 without a manual install, btw. It has the same Intel Atom my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 has, you have to manually upgrade it then download the GPU drivers off the Acer website to get HW Acceleration working, just thought I'd point that out.
Still wouldn't have chucked it out the Window tho. :pp I'm glad it's gonna get new life. Unfortunate little tablet. xD
One more thing, I agree with the "Pulling away from Microshaft things." But unfortunately, we have to live with it. Everyone will flock to the platform with most support and until Vulkan comes? No gamers will play on Linux. DX12 is around the corner, once games start getting ported you'll basically be left behind on 7 eventually.. And you'll have no choice but to upgrade whether you like it or not.
In my case, my laptop seems to be fine. I opted out of all the cortana things and that makes me feel a little bit more at privacy. 10 is running smoothly and no bugs have happenned. I'm just glad it works, I want my DX12, my Intel Core i5 4200u needs it.
