I bought mine for $80 off a guy at church who works with computers for a living. It's an older version of Windows but it works great for what I need it for. I'm afraid I don't know Much about them except for the fact a dual core processor is a must.... And also that Toshiba is a piece of crap.

If you have Facebook you could join a buy and sell group and see if anyone has a used laptop they'd sell.

good idea! i hadn't really considered buying a used laptop, so i'll look into that! i probably really don't need a brand new one. just something that works well enough for the things i need to use it for.

I don't know much about laptops too - but my uncle does! I once talked with him about that and he said he would never buy anything different from Dell or Lenovo. He didn't mention Acer but I can confirm it's also good. He told me to avoid such brands as Asus or HP. I agree with him, especially in case of HP. I had two different appliances from HP and I'm relieved I finally got rid of them! They were nothing but trash.
I'm currently using a Dell Inspiron 3721. Considering all of the pieces of junk I've worked with before, I'm more than happy with this Dell, haha. It meets most of my needs and delivers fast performance, both for drawing and using the Internet! It's not very good for games, though :c And that kinda saddens me because I like to play Minecraft too. The game doesn't get laggy or anything but the processor is overheating.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the prices. They might be a bit different on this side of the Atlantic, I'm not sure!

I encourage you to focus mostly on users' opinions while you will be looking for your new laptop. Some of them might be worthless or prejudiced, but some might be extra helpful! It's what I did when I needed a new phone and so far I love my Huawei!

my last laptop was an asus, but i used to call it my ass-us because i hated it. god, that thing caused nothing but grief. i definitely won't get another.

i looked at some lenovo laptops the other day. i've never used one, but my dad got one the year before he passed and never shut up about how amazing it was. i'm strongly considering it.

i got a really pricey dell back in 2012, and i guess it was defective or something 'cos it blue-screened the first day i had it, and before i'd even owned it a full week, it stopped booting up. i almost couldn't get a refund because dell claimed the reason my laptop broke was because i had downloaded steam. i've had steam on every laptop i've ever owned with no issues :T ever since then, i've been scared to get another dell, but everyone i know swears they're amazing, so i think i might've just been unlucky. i'm gonna get on their site and look around.

Hmm, if you don't trust Dell, it might be a good idea to try something else this time. Lenovo sure is great, I've heard their laptops are efficient and comfortable to work with. Good luck with your quest!

In my opinion a MacBook is the best for art and such like that. However a PC is perfect for gaming, sure you can play games on the MacBook but they won't be like the PC, but what's good about the Mac is you don't have to waste a lot of money for add one just to make games and such work on it which is kind of a headache for me. If your looking for the cheapest MacBook I recommend a MacBook Air. But if your wanting to get a PC instead I'd say the tablet PC.

interesting! my only concern about getting a macbook is if the art programs i use would be compatible or not! i've never looked at tablet PCs before - i'll have to do that. thanks for sharing your opinion!!

I think it depends on where you look. I've gotten my laptop for around $375 from Best Buy, and it can run Minecraft some. I don't know what specs the digital art programs are going to run you so you'd have to look at say, what kind of video card you need, how much RAM minimally you need to run it, that sort of thing. It might be worth just getting a laptop you can stick extra RAM into if you need the boost for programs.

Make sure to discuss with someone what specs you need and do a little research on that end when you go in to buy, and watch out for extra fees! D:

I'd recommend checking out Dell.com and see what's on sale, they're a little overpriced but pretty good quality. If your primary purpose is digital art, I'd recommend a decent screen resolution (1280x800 minimum) and at least 4GB of RAM.

thanks for the advice! i'll check out dell. i had a bad experience with the only dell laptop i owned and since then i've been scared to try 'em again, but seems like others have had pretty good luck with them so maybe that's the way to go.
