It's been a while since I played around with actionscript, like 4 years I think, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to remember how to code it. It'd be AS2 though, I never messed with AS3.

i have no idea what any of that means. I don't know -anything- on how to work a computer more than turning it on. if you'd be willing to help me, send me a note and we can talk about just what I would need

ActionScript is the programing language that flash uses for interactive function. AS2 is an older language based off java. AS3 is the newer more commonly used which is based off javascript, it's considered cleaner and more versatile. Though for basic functions like it seems your looking for it wouldn't really make a difference.

all I really need are a set of buttons that can be clicked to turn on and off images layered over a base image, much like the link I posted above

Yeah, that would just be basic AS code to turn on and off layers. Since it's been so long since I've used it myself, I probably couldn't tell you simply how to do it, but would take a few hours of playing to remember.

I'd be willing to give it a shot, but can't make any promises I won't get frustrated and end up not remembering how to do it. That shouldn't happen, but... never know.

If you want to wait to see if someone with more recent flash experience will help, that's fine, but who knows if that would actually take longer.

Don't mean to sound rude, but have you considered giving it a shot yourself? There are plenty of free tutorials online, or you could try a free trial of Lynda or something. Its never too late to learn a new skill! I wish I could help out, but the only information I would have is stuff that is already readily available online with the right google searches.

I tried googling things, but what little I could find I could see was way over my head. And I couldn't find out how to do the specific things I'm looking for. I wouldn't even know how to search for it

Just did a quick search for 'How to Dress Up game Flash OR Actionscript'. Seems like it covers what you're looking for, or is it more just navigating and using flash? A lot of that stuff can be picked up quickly by just playing around with it a bit, like I said, I wish there was more I could do to help but its not something I'm intimately familiar with. I've seen the guide before, but it's not quite what i'm looking for. the vid looks closer, and I may use that if what I have going with a guy right now doesn't work out. I'm just gonna have to download whatever I'd need to do the vid's way, and then take who knows how long bumbling through the process X.X

I was able to get it done for him. Honestly though, even with tutorials available out there. If you've never touched flash before, to understand how movie clips and nested animations and everything works, the coding tutorials wouldn't be much of a help. Most tutorials assume a certain level of knowledge is already there and then build off it by telling how to do specific things.

I was self taught on flash with the aid of tutorials years ago, and the learning process was a nightmare. With lots of "wait, what the hell is it talking about?" moments and lots of trial and error.

That's wonderful, I just feel like even if it isn't the easiest route sometimes its worth picking up the extra skill as it can open up more things to do down the road. But it does come down to if this is something that is a one-off project or not, and weighing the amount of time it would take to get comfortable with new software. Glad you two were able to work it out and bring Roop's idea to life though, very cool!
