It sort of counts, if we're going under a literalist interpretation of Original Character. If we're going in terms of fursona/ect, probably not because he didn't identify as the same as guilmon- so basically the "what if I had" vs the "what if I was" kind of difference.

But they also *fuse* together to evolve thus making them identify as the same entity.

And then they fucked.

They pretty much did with all that fusing in the series. Naked fusing.

Honestly I'm gonna chalk that one up to the ol' Deus-Ex Machina that is Digimon plot writing. I don't think Takato at the time of Guilmon's creation was imagining merging with him at the time.

Fan Characters (FCs) are things you create for pre-existing universes (example, all homestuck, digimon, pokemon, spyro etc "OCs" are actually "FCs" and no one calls them by the right name XD)
but yes, Guilmon is an FC cuz Takato technically was a fan of the digimon card game, and got creative and made his own digimon
and the sona part though is where it gets a bit gray(...mon XP). They do fuse yes but that doesnt mean Takato thinks of himself as guilmon. it could just mean they are VERY close friends.
not to mention when they fuse, they arent guilmon anymore, but Gallantmon.
so my opinion, is YES FC, but NO not a sona :3
