Oh Capcom... why must to hurt our nostalgia by forgetting what made Breath of Fire so great... Ryu would be fun but the question is which Ryu? While they all use swords I imagine them having different fighting styles, one used boomerangs sometimes, one seemed more two handed sword oriented, one had a katana, each has its own style of fighting....

Personal choice for me would be from III, granted they're all pretty potent possibilities as fighters. Close range sword skills, magic variety, and transformations.
