You can't just make a character then make it a valuable camodity it's not how it works. You'd need to copyright the character which will cost money to do and then the character has to be involved in something already worth money. Example good ol' Mickley Mouse he's in movies, toys and almost everything trademarked by Disney.
If you want marketable character you need a product and use the character as a mascot.
