A question for my watchers
Do none of you want to commission me for anything? I am willing to draw something for any of you for the right price, but so far, no one of FA is willing to give me a chance. And I could really use the money. I just find it odd that I get plenty of commissions on DA, but none here on FA. Why is that? Is it the style of my artwork, the fact that I'm not willing to draw sex, I really want to know.
You're vague about depicting sex in your initial proposal.
Your initial proposal was written over two years ago and hasn't been updated
You never filled out the commissions tab that FA added.
Also, timing is everything. Between the months of December-April people get large checks and tax refunds. You're better off re-announcing or reminding people around then.
Most people who ask for commissions do so for two reasons. One, for character profiles or character studies of their roleplay characters. Two, fetish material that usually depicts some sexual connotation.
I'm not saying you have to include fetishes in your work, and I'm not saying you should depict sex. Being a commission artist takes confidence and you need to be clear on what you can and cannot draw by clearly defining your restrictions. What do you mean maybe sex? What do you mean by adult or strange? These are vague terms and put people off. But you should understand that what you restrict may actually be what a majority of the people are looking for.
If you want to focus your work on character portraits or studies, I suggest increasing your price for people wanting something more than that and/or decreasing the price for portraits. If you are willing to draw some fetishes, or are on the wall for including sex, you could add an additional price. Understand, this kind of pricing may not get people in droves, but if you want to set a limit on how often you draw these things, that is an idea.
All of these are from suggestions from someone whose been looking into becoming a commission artist for over a year. My style is lacking but I'm working to improve, my ability to interpret instructions other than my own is also lacking, and my work can sometimes take weeks to finish. So, at this time, I'm not offering commissions but I thought I'd impart what I have learned.
You can also ask other people who do take commissions what else you can do. They could easily give you some advice.
In the end, it's all about putting yourself out there as much as you can.
Good luck!
