"Lycalopex" is literally a Greek portmanteau of fox and wolf. It covers a wide variety of species between foxes and wolves. Basically, folfs and woxes already exist IRL.
But yeah folf types kinda just strike me as an extreme form of indecision. What's it matter if you're a wolf, fox or husky? Mixing them is redundant, and you can already make them any colour you want. There is nothing exotic about a folf as a hybrid because it's just a mix of the most popular animals in the fandom, which have very similar morphology already. x.=.x
That's pretty much why neither of my characters (I have the concept for a third one) are based strictly on real animals; if you want something no one else has, make something up, or use something super-obscure yet easy to tell apart from other animals.
