I know, a plug journal, bear with me. I'm a big fan of fighting games (despite my lack of skill at them), especially good 2D fighters. Now, a while back, there was a MLP fan game in the works, called 'Fighting is Magic'. It got a cease and desist, but instead of just dropping the project, they turned the MLP story into an original universe. Honestly, that cease and desist was to the game's favor, as it's turned from a fan project into a solid game with shockingly good animation. It's become 'Thems Fightin' Herds'.

Check it out. Two things really catch my eye in this video. First off, the fluid animation. That tumble animation is absolutely fantastic. Second, the music. Aside from it being good, it's dynamic. You have character themes, but as the fight goes on, depending on who's winning, it changes. If the character with the theme is winning it gets more intense, but if the challenger is winning, the theme shifts toward them. In the video, it's Arizona's theme, but when Velvet, the reindeer starts winning, notice the slaybells and winter-y feel it gets. That's gonna make fights really exciting and dynamic. Comebacks and upsets are going to be marked by music.
