The reason you have that job is to save up and HAVE a life.
You need a home, food and some usable money first.
Think of it like an RPG.
You're saving up so the rest of the game will be a hell of a lot easier and you can get some cool gear if you save up a bit more, or some AWESOME gear if you keep grinding.

Yeah but I don't want gear. I'm not a materialist. I just want friends, cuddles, maybe a show or two to watch and a game to play... >.=.o

I still don't have any laboral experience, so I dunno how it feels like to work so hard every week.

I hear you Dessy. It feels wrong to waste away all the precious time we have on something you don't like. I can barely manage a part time job myself. Though i've found ways to make extra money to compensate. I for one sell stuff on ebay. At least you HAVE a job, lots of people still can't even get that part and are far more miserable.

Mmm... I don't know. If I didn't have a job, I think I'd be pretty happy. ^^' I mean I know I need the money, but not working sounds nice.

REAAAAAALY depends on what you're doing. I live heavy lifting and working at a pace that I can manage on my own, which is the job that I have now. I feel like I can do this current job forever.

People who work in the fast food industry, though, get the short end of the stick. They have to deal with a ton of people, and every so often, they get an asshole, and they have to deal with them with a smile. I was terrible at that job because I told everyone exactly how I felt and often flew off the handles at people who felt like they owned me because I was behind a counter.

Desk jobs. No. Just... no. My sister does that and she's a wiz at it, but she hates it. Don't know how she pulls through with it, though.

och, I know that feeling. I worked retail part-time for 7 years before moving on to something else, hated nearly every second of it. Derelict is right, it really depends on what you are doing? What do you do by the way? If it's retail, I can say from experience that nearly nobody enjoys it, especially full time. did you jump straight into full time, or did you work part time for a while before, that can make a large difference in your rate of acclimation as well.

Fortunately I eventually got my current job, which is something much more in tune with my interests and nothing nearly as painful as retail. What people have been saying is largely accurate, most people do just get used to a soulrending grind. The human brain is pretty good at making you happy with what you have over a long period of time as long as basic needs are being met. Still though that shouldn't deter you from trying to improve yourself, or finding a job you are more content with.

Again, really depends what you are doing.

I worked at a math tutoring franchise part time prior to beginning employment as a software developer at a 40-hour-a-week job.

I just don't like the feeling that my life will go by behind that desk. The problem probably isn't the job, though. What's wrong is probably that the rest of my life where I'm not at work doesn't have nearly enough in it. x-x

mmm, I understand it's a fear a lot of people in similar jobs feel I am sure. I work with students all day, so I kinda have a more direct and tangible sense of success that keeps me going. time with friends is great, aye, a great man once said that "We spend our lives trapped, when all we really want to do is play." For me when I was feeling particularly down at my old job, it helped to think about a brighter future, im talking like, decades ahead. My interest in Eastern Philosophy and Buddhism also helped me find some inner contentment. I wish I could be more help, you are not alone!

It sounds like you might be having a sort of existential experience/crisis. It's easy to look at life and ask "whats the point?" You seem to have a lot of friends and enjoy the interactions with them, but you want more, you want the majority of your time to be dedicated to more fulfilling pursuits at least emotionally. It's a very human thinking process. I think somewhere around 60% of people say they are not happy with their jobs, so it's not uncommon either.

It would be easy to say you are just being insatiable, and that you don't want to work at all, and just have fun with friends and family. I think if people are really honest with themselves that's all anyone wants to do. For me, I savor my time with friends, but I understand the need for work. It would be nice if your job was more fulfilling, and it sounds like you should really keep looking for one, but try framing your job in the light of "I need to do this, so that I can enjoy time with my friends and family." It has worked for me sometimes, I hope it can work for you at least a little.

I was thinking of doing full-time because i really needed money but i dont know if i have the stamina and will power to work so much for that long.

It is something you need to get used to, its an adjustment to a new way of life. I have been doing it for 10 years now and now have a job were I have my days off together and such. Plus a lot has to do with the outlook, I have some really great people at my job. They make the day a little easier, I have goals to move up which i am doing and it gives some inspiration and encouragement. Working as much as I do I have come to appreciate my time off more, learned to enjoy it and getting things that I have earned feels great as well. Though by far the most important thing to remember is, work is at work. Don't bring the drama or the worries home with you. I did that for years and it made the full time job feel like two, my time off wasn't truly mine and stressed me out way too much. I hope it gets better for you and you can soon enjoy life to the fullest again!

I'll never understand why so many programming jobs these days can't be done at home, with all the online tools we have now. Even if it's the same number of hours, at least then you could be more relaxed. Not to mention all the free time gained (and money not spent on gas) from not driving back and forth to work. Are companies really THAT concerned about data leakage when it happens regardless of their security when there's a hacker(s) intelligent and dedicated enough to break in, or are they ironically all just stuck in the past while working on the future?

Maybe you ought to consider freelancing sometime. I have another programmer friend who started doing that and it's working out decently. I'd imagine you also have a better resume than he does too.

Hmmm Well there's some stuff I can do from home, but I generally show up to do it anyway. There are also things I just can't do from home. >w<

Didn't think you'd respond considering. Why not save all the work-only work for work? Wouldn't it be easier to go in only 2-3 days of the week and do the rest at home? Or is home also not relaxing during those hours? D:
