Saying goodbye to a beloved furry friend...

Well, I don't think I told anyone but, it turns out there was a period where my 11 year-old cat, Lucky, wasn't eating as much as he used to, and after trying a few things, we took him to the vet to get looked at. Turns out that he's suffering from kidney failure, and, unfortunately, must be put down.
I got Lucky back in 2004, when I was on the tail end of 5th grade I believe. He was adorable as a kitten, and it was very nice having another cat for our other cat, Mandark, to play with. The two grew up together, and until now, Lucky seemed less active and lethargic, and the aforementioned eating problem had shown its ugly head.
We tried all we could to save him, but things aren't looking up. Thankfully, he doesn't seem in pain, and almost like he's ready to go. We're going to probably put him down tonight, thus saying our last goodbyes to another family pet. I've done my crying though, granted there might be some tears tonight, but Lucky has led a good life, and was a very loving cat.
So here's to your luck in the next life, little buddy. You will be deeply missed.

Man I'm sorry to hear that. I know how it feels although it wasn't quite the same as what happened in my case a year ago as of July. My god sister had me take care of her cat when she moved to North Carolina when her father got custody of her and her brother after her mother died. So I was taking care of her cat for about 9 years and one day I noticed she was only using one side of her mouth to eat which was due to a couple of bad teeth which we got fixed. A few months later she started eating less and started to lose weight which wasn't normal for her and I took her to the vet and turned out she had throat cancer and that they couldn't cure it which left me with a hard choice. I could either put her on pain meds until I decided to put her to sleep or until she died or I could have her put to sleep so that she wouldn't have to suffer. I ended up choosing to put her to sleep. I can only say hard as it might be to make the right choice if a pet is dying of something that can't be cured, at least you can feel better knowing you did the right thing and didn't force them to suffer by making them wait to die of whatever they are dying of.
