The Little Things ...

Once again I proceed to thoroughly date myself, but ... long story short, I am utterly boggled and baffled, practically giddy, that Leslie Fish friended me on Facebook. (insert goggle-eyed wolf here)
For you young'uns and the uninitiated, Leslie Fish is one of the original sci-fi/fantasy musicians (AKA "filkers")
Back in the early days, when "furry" was just another special-interest-group in science-fiction fandom, filking was a major part of both. Filking is basically sci-fi/fantasy's take on the ancient art of the bard, writing songs or re-writing existing songs so that they're topical to current themes and interests (it's called "filk" because way back when, someone typoed "folk", and like any good nerds, the typo became official). If you've ever made up funny furry, sci-fi, or fantasy lyrics to a song, you're filking!
Leslie's is the kind of music you can only get in sci-fi/fantasy/furry; a cockamamie blend of anarchistic, socialistic, speculative, fannish, original, fantastical, sarcastic, political, hopeful, fatalistic, idealistic, optimistic everything-in-a-blender. I've loved her stuff since I was but a wee pup of a sci-fi fan. If you want a bit of a giggle and a smile, look her up on YouTube: be warned it's an acquired taste ,many of these albums only ever existed on 4-track cassette so the quality is sometimes sketchy, and Leslie's voice is the sort of gravelly, and raucous you get with folk-singers sometimes. If you want something in a similar vein but more melodious, fantasy-based and generally a bit better production values, try Heather Alexander/Alexander James Adams!

Although Tom *does* take it to entirely new levels.
why are all the great filkers so left wing?
It's why I SUCK at being an artist, I cannot dream bigger than what I'm actually able to produce
I didn't know that she's on YouTube. Gotta look her up vids! EEEEeeee!!
A man is walking on the moon, with his eyes turned up t'wards space,
And the bright blue world that watches him, reflected on his face.
The whole world sees the hero there, and the module crew also,
But few can see the guiding team that guards him from below.
Step by step the longest march can be won, can be won.
Many stones can form an arch, singly none, singly none.
And together what we will can be accomplished still,
Many drops can turn a mill, singly none, singly none.
Here's a health to the man who walks the moon, and the module crew above,
And the team that watches from the sky, with worry, joy and love.
To all who blazed the sky-trail, come raise your glasses 'round,
And a health to the unknown heroes who never left the ground!
Step by step the longest march can be won, can be won.
Many stones can form an arch, singly none, singly none.
And together what we will can be accomplished still,
Many drops can turn a mill, singly none, singly none.
Here's a health to the ship's designers, and the welders of her seams,
And all who man the radar scan, to watch our dawning dreams.
For all the unknown heroes, sing out to every shore:
What makes one step a giant leap is all the steps before!
Step by step the longest march can be won, can be won.
Many stones can form an arch, singly none, singly none.
And together what we will can be accomplished still,
Many drops can turn a mill, singly none, singly none.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zotaRLROtw - not the original version sung by Leslie Fish, unfortunately, but the closest I could find. The song tends to be overshadowed by some of her better-known ones.
Does Weird Al Yankovic count as a Filk artist?
I only know of one Filk artist for sure, Rob Balder.
