Good News that Ties my Stomach in a Knot
My mom has been trying to get a seizure dog for years and finally found a program that train one of our dogs to fit the role. This is a good thing right? Yep. Except my dog, Maggie, is the best fit for the training. She has the perfect temperament, obeys commands promptly, and she's very empathetic with plenty of love and respect for my mom.
I know it's selfish to feel this way, but she's been my snuggle buddy and given me a great sense of security when living alone. I told my mom to use her but it still is yanking on my heart strings.
I'll still have Monster but he's not a particularly large dog and has the protective instincts of a gnat so far. He's a great companion, but he's my other furbaby and in no way able to take her place just like if it were reversed, she couldn't take his.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation where your pet, your furbaby had to live with someone else for said person's benefit? How long did it take you to accept it fully and not feel that empty spot in your heart? Any suggestions?
