I've been through an amusing number of ups and downs with this community, from trying to offer valid critiques to outright removing myself from the fandom. At this point, I pretty much don't care anymore what most folks on here think.
Why?
Because I've realized that 90% of you are idiots, and the opinions of idiots are meaningless. No, wait, hear me out. You are not idiots because I dislike you, or because you did poorly on an SAT, or because we have different viewpoints. You are idiots because you accept crap as the standard of business, you spend thousands of dollars on the worst possible products you can buy, you shelter each other from critical assessment, and you actively resist change when confronted about how utterly fucking wasteful that all is.
While my partner and other dedicated artists spend countless hours ensuring that every pic they do is the best quality they can offer, there are DOZENS of "top name" artists on here peddling total shit for obscene amounts of money. Terrible anatomy, horrible color, little offered for the cash spent, and worst of all, entitled egos the size of mountains. While there are fundraisers on here every day by genuinely talented people to clothe the homeless, feed the hungry, even save endangered animals...you're all busy throwing wads of cash at angsty, unmotivated morons who would be tossed out of art school in two seconds flat.
Yet you people keep paying them. And white knighting for them. And before you know it, the entire fandom will collapse into one big feel-good pile of sycophantic bullshit where the only people who bother to actually draw anymore are the worst skilled and the highest charging. But hey, it's what you all are paying to have happen, so it MUST be the conclusion you desire, right?
So yeah, fuckit. I don't care how it reflects on BC (who is and always has been his own man with his own opinions) or anyone else. I'm calling you folks on your bullshit--on your "gimme 1000 dollars to draw a half-assed character the same way with minor variations" art, on your "tolerate all views except the ones you disagree with" attitudes, on your "critique is mean, people shouldn't be held to standards!" crap, and especially on your endless insistence on idolizing people who raucously mock you behind closed doors.

So... are you telling us to be intolerant of views that we are indifferent to or supportive of? That seems rather counterproductive. Why wouldn't I tolerate a view I have no disagreement towards?

Not saying that everyone's opinions are valid--FUCK NO they aren't. But everyone should be permitted to engage in a conversation and have their worth judged on the merits of the argument as they present it. They should NOT be forced out simply for disagreeing.
But, knowing that there's people trying their best for the sake of the quality gives me hope. As long as people don't fall into the clutches of greed and seek to improve. It's going to be better.
I have actually had arguments with other people about how much money some artists that I genuinely believe are less-then-average art skill-wise and the amount of money they make. Or how ridiculous some art will go for in a bidding war.
After talking with a few other art friends, I realized that quite a lot of them feel stuck in the same choice--grow as an artist, maintain personal integrity, and always deliver high end stuff....or sell out to compete with the big dogs, and actually get to eat and pay bills. It's an unfair choice, and the only way I can see to fix it is by the community collectively deciding to hold the big names to higher standards. But we all know that won't happen, anymore than people will stop paying for shitty McDonalds burgers despite it costing restaurant prices for one now
