I'm sorry, but your friends are idiots for that.

They can hear just fine so they don't always realize the issue for me in situations like this...plus it's the first week of the Star Wars release and tickets sell out fast so there's a chance they might not have been able to get tickets for the one that had captions. Either that or they thought the 3-D crap might make up for it...in actuality the 3-D gave me a headache and I had to spend most of the movie trying to bend the glases to a shape that didn't mess with my eyes.

Yeah, 3-D tends to screw with my eyes too. Shame that, it is a good movie.

After seeing what the 3-D set-up is, I'm not shocked, the glasses they use for the 3-D effect are horrifying...the caption setup is a personal display thing, it's not a part of the movie itself, so trying to read the "cash register screen" like display unit with the glasses on would NOT work. The 3-D itself doesn't work as far as I go...gave me a headache.

Its a star wars movie and an american movie so whats going on is fighting and explosion, who cares about dialog? Just think of any michael bay movie ever made.

Also, the message was about equality and feminism in space.

Well the basic stuff like explosions and crap was easy to get since it's visual, but I never heard the lines, I didn't know anything that was said until I came home and checked out IMDB.com's quotes section. For example, when Han and Chewie board the Falcon again, I did not know Han said "Chewie, we're home." and that's not even story related...I didn't even know who the bad guy was until the bridge scene, and even then it was only a vague "Ok, they know him, and it seems to be very personal" and IMDB let me know my guess was right, but it might have made the action of the film more involving for me if I knew WHY they were doing some things, or why there were changes with certain characters. I found out what was up with R2 on IMDB but there was no explaination there why the hell C-3P0 had a red arm.
