Nah, folks of all sorts seem to be looking forward to it. I think I know more non-furries than furries talk about it too!
Plus I saw the Sloth trailer in a full movie theater, and there was a LOT of laughter/chuckles from the whole audience. I'm more than certain it'll be a bit hit far and wide.
You do realize that animals are appreciated by people who aren't furries, right?
And its DISNEY, who have an incredibly huge and broad fanbase. Nah, people are going to enjoy this movie. Sure seems like it'll be a good one and I attended a panel of theirs at an event recently. They put a lot of research into animals and put a lot of thought into the idea. It looks way awesome and I'm pretty stoked!
I've seen plenty of discussion from the sidelines about how a number (big number, small number? I haven't a clue) of non-furries view this as a movie to cash in on the growing furry fandom in a way. Not saying that it is Disney's motivation, I find the entire thought silly as well. But some people seem to be avoiding the movie out of sheer suspicion that it might be an attempt to get a foot in the door with the modern furry audience.
No. This is NOT a furry movie at all. I haven't heard anything like that, but its definitely not the situation XD Instead, I hear the furry fandom claiming it as a movie meant for them, when it definitely isn't. People will definitely enjoy it, the same way the enjoyed Kung Fu Panda, Robin Hood, and other animal centric films.
I know. It's a Disney movie. I'm aware Disney has been doing anthropomorphic, intelligent animal movies since the 1930's. But I'm talking from what I think their perspective is, the people that think this is a furry movie. And by proxy also the furries that think this is a movie for them.
I just am curious how it's going to turn out in the end. I really hope neither side kind of... gives any negative connotations to the movie, or anything.
I've heard approximately 0 people who aren't furries get up in arms about it being a furry movie. Like you said, intelligent/talking animals have been around since the start of films. You're worrying WAAAY too much about this. There was no backlash from anything else like rescuers down under, over the hedge/nut job (besides those two not being great movies), or any of the ice age movies. Seriously, I have no idea why you're stressed so much about the furry image over one movie. Movies with anthro aimals are HARDLY anything new. No one's pissed about it being a "furry movie." Stop sweating it
I find it a bit arrogant that you assume that because you've heard nobody argue about it, that nobody at all ever has. I've seen a good bit of discussion about it, and while I'm definitely not going to lose any sleep over it, I'm "worrying" in the sense that I'm curious if it is going to affect the movie any in the end. This movie does have some people on what would seem to be the edge of their comfort zones (both within the fandom, and outside of the fandom). I don't know why, but I'm always a bit curious as to at least understand it. I don't know if they have a valid point until I do, after all.
Not really seeing how anyone can look at Zootopia and assume it's a movie for the furries unless it's someone from 4chan saying it to troll.
And I'd highly doubt that people fearing that Zootopia is a furry movie will hurt it's sale numbers much. To be honest the mass majority of people don;t even know what a furry is.
I don't think it's arrogant, apologies if it came off that way. I guess I just saw it as you looking for people to have an issue with it. I deal with a lot of people in my day to day life tween university life and two jobs, and no one in person has ever had any grievances. I see it as it's one of those things where people complain about everything online (the asinine of people on tumblr complain about all this stuff that I've never seen anyone talk about in real life) and no one actually cares in person.
My stance is there's just been SO many movies with anthro characters and sentient animals that it seems weird to point out zootopia when nothing else has ever had any issues despite having the same kinds of things. I didn't mean to act like I was snarking you, just that it seems unusual to bring up this one movie when so many others have done the same thing before. There's so many "furry" characters and movies out there, this just seems more of the same to me.
Not to take sides, but take a gander over at any comment section for this movie on youtube/ect, and you'll see a good chunk of people screaming "eww furries burn them oh no rule 34 think of the kids THE LGBT HAS INVADED DISNEY (no seriously there are some people who believe this)", and while some might be trolls/desperate people, some do claim to not be trolls and legitimacy do have a fear/beef with anything talking animal related.
Not defending those people at all, just pointing out that there are *some non-furries* who are getting a stink out of this movie/fans who can't be labeled as "trolls", But, you are right, so far this movie is looking good and the creators/workers are putting effort into it
I will say this, hearing things from here and there
Like all the stuff disney does,They make films for everybody
That said, Disney and the people working on the film are DEFINITELY aware furries are gonna dig this
I would not be surprised at all if there isn't at least one snide joke about furries being slipped in the movie that goes over most people's heads

That is the thing I'm wondering about.
