If they commited the crime they spend the time, IF the law is reasonable (IE a non reasonable is the seditious material/thoughts act) if they didnt commit the crime, then as long as no one gets hurt im not opposing them, For once people seem to be standing up im just afraid it will get messy and make things worse.

They not only admit to the crime and accept the punishment, they've actually requested that the militia stand down.
For reference, the crime was setting fire to federally owned land to cover up some poaching, and the time is five years. The individuals in this case successfully argued that the 5 year mandatory sentence was unconstitutional, but the federal government appealed to have them sentenced under some federal sentencing guidelines. That seems to be the issue the militia has here, though I might be wrong.
What's interesting about it is that a lot of the folks who were involved in the Bundy standoff in 2014 are up there. Ammon Bundy, Ryan Payne, and a few other names are showing up. IIRC Payne was regarded as something of a troublemaker back during the 2014 incident.

And naturally, this had to happen right as the Prez is about to attempt to take executive action on fun rights. Beyond the bad-idea-ness of this politically, I have no idea how they think they're going to hold onto that building for years. I'm thinking this is going to be a bad way to start the year.

I lost all my respect for the same Oath Keepers that are at this whole Oregon situation since they defended that idiot Kim Davis. And by the looks of things a lot of the people responding to this situation are a bunch of right wing extremists who just want to show off their over accessorized AR's, and combat gear ready to give typical gun owners a bigger black eye.

That's just my two cents from what I as a spectator can see. I'm not there, I don't know how real these people consider themselves to be and which ones are trained and which ones are closet commando's.

You should take to heart this age old wisdom, so that in the future you can spot groups of assholes from the start.

Anyone who unironically refers to themselves and their group as "patriots" is pretty much guaranteed to be anything but patriots.

From what I've read in the past the ranchers in that area have been bought out by the BLM, and the one that didn't want to sell was harassed for years prior to the convictions in 2001. The court says it's ok to impose unreasonably harsh punishment because they have done so in the past. Who's in the wrong? Hard to wade through everything (I advise avoidance of popular national propaganda such as CNN, NY Times ect) to pick out the information from the b.s. Best bet is to locate old articles around 98'-02

My understanding was that was what happened last time BLM and militia were in the news together, so this wouldn't surprise me. I'd be interested in giving it a read if you have any links to old articles handy.

Still, I question whether this was the best course of action given the current political climate. The media is on the lookout for anything they can point at and scream "Domestic Terrorist!" at, and the administration is always glad to have more fuel for their gun control agenda. I'm hoping clear heads prevail and everyone walks away from this unharmed.

i find it funny that the news made them out to be terrorist but these people were doing building maintenance to a vacant building while the news was calling them terrorist. yep totally something that terrorist would do lol
