Nerd/Retro-Computing Question!
So right now I'm browsing Fur Affinity, and posting this journal, using Windows 2000 Professional running on a 10-or-so-year-old computer (Gateway Profile 5.5). It runs quite well, but ever since I installed the unofficial Service Pack 5.1 and an Unofficial Update Rollup, my antivirus software (which is an old version with updated definitions that's fully compatible with Windows 2000, hasn't worked quite right. But that's not what I'm asking about (though if you can help with this, I'd appreciate it! I'm using AVG Free 9.0). What I want to ask is this: do any of you still use old/outdated (not to say obsolete) operating systems? In other words, are any of you into Retro-computing? If so, why?
I mostly use Linux, since it's so much more secure, efficient, stable, and reliable than Windows, but when I need Windows, I almost always go for Windows 2000 or Windows XP (though my main computer has Windows 7 Pro in addition to two versions of XP Pro). In my experience, Windows 2000 and Windows XP are the two best versions of Windows that Microsoft ever made, and I've found QUITE a few others who say the same.
Just got curious and thought I'd ask. Plus I'm always amused when people hear that I use old operating systems, look at me funny, and flatly ask, "Why?"
