Some ideas and changes for 2016 commissions
10 years ago
Hello everyone! Hope you all had a good holiday and that 2016 brings wonderful things for you! :3
A new year has started and I was thinking about doing some changes regarding the way I work with commissions.
The first thing would be writing a terms of service (TOS) for future commissions, writing down everything a client should know about the way I work, his rights and so on. I've checked other artists TOS', seeing what I had in common and adding whatever I thought it was necessary. Don't worry, it's nothing fancy. It's just that I think it's better for both of us, artist and client, to understand each other =)
EDIT: Here's the link to the terms of service!
Secondly, I was thinking about doing some "your character here" (YCH) commissions. Sometimes I feel like drawing a specific pose or clothing, mostly for training, but drawing faceless or characterless bodies is no fun.
I would like to know your opinions about it, about how it should be done, if you think it's better as an auction or a fixed price and so on.
And the third topic is about reference sheets. Character or reference sheets are the sort of work that takes most of my time. What you see as the final result is only a percentage of the time I put on it. There's a lot of "backstage" work, a lot of talking and sketching and fixing things, always keeping contact with the client and asking if everything is right, if everything is the way they wanted it.
And here I'm talking about characters that had some sort of reference already, maybe not as accurate as the owner wanted it, but a reference nonetheless. If what the client want is a character design, the time spent with the backstage work is multiplied.
So I was thinking about auctioning reference sheets and character designs and I would like to know what you all think about it.
That's it!
Thank you very much for reading~

Character sheets are always nice as well, there's a whole bunch of different ways do do 'em and to be honest, are very handy. I've had to link several different pics since I don't have updated ref sheets of my own.
Same to you, I hope 2016 will be a great year for you. ^_^
Terms of Service are definately a good idea. They bring certainty for both you and the customer and avoid a lot of trouble. Copying them from other artists and then adaptimg them to your personal situation is a good approach.
I can personally recommend your reference sheets by heart! You put so much effort into them and communication with you about it was just perfect. You did a fabulous job with the bunny ref sheet and you sketched so many poses simply to show me what I actually wanted. Respect for that. Auctioning works like these could work and increase the price for your work. Alternatively you could just raise the base price for ref sheets. :) Wait a second ... I need a reference sheet for a character. Oh well, rules are rules. :D
Nothing is a rule yet, I'm going to think about all this things very well before making any decisions. And I'm thinking about auctioning it at least once, just to see how much people are willing to pay for this kind of work and then maybe rethink my prices, but not anything drastically. I just want things to be fair =)
You deserve the praise, because it is true. :)
"Fair" is a nice term. I think an increase of 25% for your reference sheets would be fair. Let's see what the experiment brings, though. ^_^
