Job hunting is rough!
Yeeesh, job hunting is a tough way to spend the days.
So, my break is over and it's time to find a new contract. Which is going reasonably well; been talking to LOADS of people, have a few promising leads and even got a few interviews.
The tough bit is having to put together a whole new persona for each phone call and improv your way through it all while trying to work out what their ideal candidate is and how you can incorporate that into the new character. it's exhausting at the best of times but doing repeatedly for 8+ hours a day is reeeeally draining.
It's kinda fun though, getting to play through each persona's hopes and dreams for each possible job that comes your way (To properly sell it to them you need to fake some real emotional investment). Often when you hit the 'end call' button it's like cutting a puppets strings and you collapse as the fatigue hit you.
Right now my favorite persona is the one where I ask them £500-£600 a day and they treat it like a totally sane thing to ask for; I wonder how far I can push that until someone says "no".
Hopefully i'll be able to nail down one of these prospects before the end of next week. If I can snag one higher paying ones it'll be a great boost to my career and will really progress my plans nicely.
Fingers crossed.
