giving up on ideas when other people say things?

I am sorry I come to here for help so much, but many of you on here are really smart.
Before, I had been wanting to write things for myself that do not follow a standard story model like the monomyth, but felt discouraged when someone had said that trying to go against a formula intentionally will make a story suck.
I may sound silly, but I am really self-conscious. I can't even get any writing done as I feel I am being watched and judged by the characters themselves.

I think it'd be cool to see these writings you do if you post them. ^^ So yeah, if you wanna do it then do it and don't be afraid of what people think. *hugs*
