Can it be diet tiem nyao?
Okay so after a multitude of inept doctors I finally snag one who is down to earth and serious about the job she does and after several tests I have been advised to go on a diet in order to reduce my weight and help with several other things.
So today was my first day of serious dieting and I have stocked up on the things I hope will help me. My body is still expecting it's usual overdose of sugar but it is currently satisfied at having it's first real piece of red meat in a long time. (Previous doctor told me I had to stop eating red meat cause of elevated iron levels ... or something, he was kind of an idiot)
Tomorrow will set the pace for me and my current physician said if I was able to go three days without sugar it should curb the cravings my body has...three days seem like a long time now.
So I do apologize in advance if I seem a little snarky and snappy over the next week, it won't be your fault just me getting use to a more healthy lifestyle...go me. >__>

It is also best done in conjunction with a reasonable exercise regimen. It doesn't have to be much, but it has to be consistent and get the blood flowing. If pacing around gets your blood flowing... there you go. Don't hurt yourself by trying for too much. Start slow, work your way up. Again, you are looking at months time-frame before you see anything concrete from this.
Also, whoever told you that red meat is bad for you is probably a leftover from the 80's who never bothered actually updating his research. Red meat is not bad for you. Now green fuzzy meat... that stuff you gotta watch out for!
Cutting sugars, starches, and simple carbs is a good place, although you shouldn't go to excess, and don't eliminate them *completely*. You do want complex carbs, such as found in veggies, you do want proteins, which are largely found in meat. Stay away from polyunsaturated fats (Trans Fats). However, a certain amount of fat is not necessarily a bad thing, so long as it is saturated fats such as are found in dairy products. Don't be particularly concerned about lean cuts of meat either. You need a certain amount of fat in your meat or it turns into a brick when you cook it. You can drain off the fat later as it becomes grease, and still have a lean meat meal.
You also will need a certain amount of fiber or... unpleasant things happen. You're going to find it in whole grains (which should also constitute the majority of your starches), some veggies, and not a whole lot else.
Again, moderation is the key word here. Slow changes are easier on the body. A sudden 'crash diet' can really hurt you if you aren't VERY careful. You're wanting to see changes over longer periods of time, not short-term. Losing 2-3 pounds a week is about the most you want to see. Maybe 5 pounds at the outside. More than that, and you start running risks. Consistency is far more important than raw numbers here.
