SizeCon Update 2/3/16
Hi everyone!
Jitensha and I are super-excited about how SizeCon is coming along, and we just wanted to give everyone a more "operational" update on how SizeCon is doing -- a behind-the-scenes look, if you will.
First off, I wanted everyone to know that we've got 34 attendees who have purchased tickets. Our guests come from all over -- from California to Florida to Texas and more. Plus we have an international presence as well: we've got purchases from Great Britain, France, Portugal, and even Australia. And overall, the overwhelming majority of them (29) are not from New York. I emphasize this point because I believe we can reliably bump up our headcount by at least 20 because many of the NYC Macro/Micro Meetups haven't bought their tickets. For them, there's little rush since they live here -- no need to set travel arrangements or lodging. Furthermore, we have 25 confirmed artists and exhibitors! If we didn't sell another non-Meetup ticket, I'd say our total headcount is around 75 people!
Anyway, this translates to just over $3,000 in our bank account from EventBrite alone. This figure does not include $250 from one international attendee who was having trouble with EventBrite (that person PayPal'ed me directly), and it also doesn't include my own personal contribution of $500. We also have other outstanding pledges -- all told I would say we are at around $4,500!
What are we doing with that money? Well first off, we put a down payment on our venue. It's a beautiful art gallery in Midtown Manhattan. Second, we rented some of the Green Screen/SFX equipment. I've been in close communication with Gary Pranzo; he'll be working his magic so that any attendee can be made into a giant or tiny on the spot! Lastly, we're putting in orders for the T-shirts, size props, and more. We're extremely excited about how things are coming together!
The next few things we have to buy: ID badges, brochures, and posters.
Poster Contest
I'm going to make an official announcement about this later, but "posters" item is particularly important because we're planning on accepting submissions for the posters. We'll be purchasing a number of 24"x36" (or larger, but the same aspect ratio) posters, framing them, and then hanging them up around the convention. We've already got many of our featured artists hard at work on renders, paintings, and collages that we can't wait to debut at the convention. That being said, anyone who wants to submit their own piece to be printed and framed, along with a little note card with whatever info you'd like alongside it, please send in your piece by February 21st! That's when we'll be ordering the posters; we'll pick the best of the bunch and hang them up for free! Our only requests are that you refrain from being too graphic, and that you do not include copyrighted or trademarked characters. Otherwise, go nuts!
Send your submissions to nycsizecon@gmail.com!

So yeah, that was a quick update on how we've been coming along. I'll probably write one of these regularly as we get closer and closer to the con date. That being said, I want to not only reiterate how excited we are about SizeCon, but also say how grateful we are that this is even a thing. Enough of you believed in us from the very beginning, when we were just a crazy idea, and still believed in us after the Kickstarter failed. Day-by-day, that belief is pushing us forward: people E-mail us all through the week asking about SizeCon, or how they can help, or if they can set up a booth. We've got people like SorenZer0, M31, and GiantessFan Comics (and many, many more people not named here!) generously donating their time and talent to our effort. I think the inertia is strong enough now for us to say with some certainty that this is actually going to happen. Keep an eye on us!
Sincerely,
Bryan
