Hello, Commander #XCOM Story Updates!
This is primarily a journal aimed at those involved in my XCOM group commission as the previous one was getting a little too messy and confusing with all the comments and which link is correct and current. I want to first thank all those involved for your tremendous enthusiasm and support for this group project. Thanks to that keenness, it's now been able to expand well out of the original scope and take the shape of a mini-series and tonight I've just put the finishing touches to the third chapter, second of the main 'Alien Terror' action segments. The next will be an all-out action extended chapter, followed by the planned epilogue.
I think some of those involved may not have seen the second chapter as the link might have become a bit lost in the comments on the previous journal, for those that haven't, you now have two new chapters to read!
Chap #1 Introduction: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7yo1lul2s.....ction.pdf?dl=0
Chap #2 Alien Terror Part I: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3qwdu080p.....t%20I.pdf?dl=0
Chap #3 Alien Terror Part II: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a0und3f89.....%20II.pdf?dl=0 (BRAND NEW 16.02)
Chap #3 is where I introduce ranks and callsigns, some of which I've picked out myself, some were supplied. One thing I've learned personally is it's rare that you pick your own nickname, you're often given one by others that just sticks, so tried to adhere to that principle. If anyone particularly dislikes the call sign I gave them, particularly Sigma, Bering and Dragonspike, let me know and we can work on something different. Same with ranks. I very much welcome all feedback so far and any suggestions or tweaks you have. Everyone is going to get their own little 'spotlight' moment of kick-ass action in the next chapter, in addition to the fast-paced back and forth dialogue that'll occur around it. Plenty of alien butt-kicking to go around.
Oh! I will seek feedback on a couple of things. Firstly, after a certain point in chapter three, I begin to use callsigns exclusively to refer to the characters involved. Would you prefer I use actual names (e.g. Jax, Kisha, Furian) if remembering all the call signs and who they belong to becomes confusing? Secondly, I don't use the actual real-world names for cities and locations, partly to emphasise the alternate nature of Anthro-Earth, and partly to avoid becoming bogged down in looking at street maps. For example, and borrowing from one of my own old RPG settings, London becomes Royale City. The British Isles become the Royale Isles. Does anyone object to that? Does it lose any impact, and would prefer I use actual RW names? Let me know.
Anyone else reading this and thinking 'Ahhh, but I want to be a part of this!', worry not. Once this one is completed, I'll be opening up slots in a new one for both returning veterans and new people who'd like to take part in an XCOM group comm of their own. Same with other themed group commishes.
For now though, thanks for reading!

Also, how is the new XCOM? I've been thinking about picking it up myself.
I actually haven't played it yet. ^^; It sounds and looks amazing though, so I'd certainly recommend picking it up.
